Fuel pump recall...more Toyotas added to include 18-20 Tundra

My truck is going in 12/28 for the full pump recall replacement

 

I spoke with the sales pukes and since I'm in the process of buying a used truck off the lot it's in "recall lockdown" from Toyota Corporate. I told sales I don't care, I'll sign a waiver/release and let me take it, I'm willing to roll the dice. We'll see what management has to say about that. I'm figuring since this recall is across the entire Toyota line that every Toyota Dealership is going to be hamstrung on selling any used vehicles. This pot is going to come to a boil pretty quick. Is 2020 F'ing over yet????

 

Yea, I don't think any of us saw 2020 coming. One for the record books for sure.

 

That’s a bummer. Hopefully it gets figured out. As for 2020, let’s hope it’s not just a warmup for 2021.

 

Toyota didn't have a choice in issuing the recall, they were very likely compelled by the NHTSA. Once they crossed whatever threshhold was established the recall goes into effect whether they have a fix or not. That would normally put pressure on the mfgr to get hot on coming up with a fix. But as mentioned, with manufacturing taking a pause for COVID they are struggling to catch up. Its not ideal for any/all parties, but it will get fixed eventually. Most are not having issues, but I imagine those that are showing symptoms are just getting a "new" old part to get them back on the road and will eventually have to go back in for the updated part when its available.

I just got home and went through my mail. It looks like my 19 Tundra TRD Pro has another recall on it for "low pressure fuel pump"

Did any of you get this?

 

Just had mine done at the dealership today. They also did a Millimeter Wave Radar Sensor recall that I wasn’t aware of.

 

How long did it take?

 

I need to check the site again to see if my 2020 is on it. Nothing in the mail as of yet.

 

they told me 2.5 to 3 hours. Took about 4 which included regular scheduled maintenance (oil change, rotate tires....) but they were slammed this morning so not to upset.

they have to drop the fuel tank.

 

Thanks for your reply. My recall notice said that Toyota was working on a remedy and will mail me another letter once they are ready to fix it, which is weird since you already got yours done.

 

Yeah, that’s strange. Maybe call your dealership directly. Mine had actually called me in addition to notice I got in the mail.

 

I got my letter today. Will have to travel to get this done as the local dealer absolutely SUCKS.

 

I got my fuel pump recall done about 3-4 months ago along with the TSS and blinker recall

 

I got mine done in Oct and it’s the only recall I have. I have to make a separated trip as the parts need to be ordered, at least that’s what they told me. Also, the dealer gave me a 2020 Avalon loaner and charged Toyota for a day I had it.

 

I got one for my 19 Highlander, but no remedy available. Notice to advise only. I am wondering if I will get one for my 2021 Tundra??

 

Still not on the recall list when I checked the Toyota Owners website...

I was in for maintenance a few weeks ago and it's marked on my invoice as (recall on order) but my dolt of a tech didn't mention a thing to me about it.

 

I got mine last week. Haven’t done anything yet. I’ll wait till the next oil change.

 

I got my recall notice a few days ago. Said they would let me know when a remedy was found.

 

Still nothing on mine ... just checked the website again. Only open recall is the front turn signal brightness (which I fixed on my own).

 

I'll need to do the turn signal fix on my own too. Even though I have LED's in mine and they're fine - I'll probably give it a shot in the spring time.

 

I wonder what they mean by "if a remedy is found"

If there's an issue they better come up with a remedy!

 

If you are running LED front blinker bulbs then DO NOT perform the recall procedure. If you do, you will experience Hyper Flash with your LED blinkers. My service manager told me to leave it alone if I liked my LED's. There is no danger involved in that recall. Only those using the factory bulbs should perform this recall due to how dim they flash. The LED's rock out perfectly with no issues at all.

Wow, thanks for letting me know about this! I'll leave it as is, and if and when I take the car in for servicing I'll make it clear to the dealership not to perform the turn signal fix.

Got mine last week. The dealership ordered the part today and will let me know when to bring it in. I will have them do the turn signal recall as well.

 

Had the turn signal brightness recall completed, big difference in luminosity. Has the TSS recall completed for the front mounted sensor. Recently had the fuel pump recall completed as well. Would advise to take the truck in with less than an 8th of a tank to make it easier on the tech and your truck.

 

It's a super easy fix that you can do yourself at home if you wanted to try it out. Some guys say they got Hyper-Flash after the fix, others said they did not. Mine work fine, so I'm leaving them alone.
