I have an old...like really old from the 70's Long Life Champion 20 that my brother in law gave us 11 years ago and it starts 2nd or 3rd pull everytime even after letting it sit all winter long. He won it in a poker game because the other guy ran out of money and the mower is all he had of value in the back of his truck. They dont make em' like they used to. It only takes me 20 min. to mow my yard.

Hold the Line! If you are not holding the line, abandon your ship. Destruction is inevitable without more to hold the line!
If you are not wanting to get too fancy and you are looking for a decent ride-on that will last a good while I recommend looking for a mower matching the following:
Motor: Honda or Kohler or Tecumseh
    Deck: Honda, Toro

When I had my landscape business going I used a Toro Commercial-grade zero-turn with twin Tecumseh motors. It was a very robust lawn mower for a fair price(4k).
Grandpa has had this for 4 years now and has had zero issues. He mows 4 acres twice a month during the summer. It is pricey...7K

how much land do you have to mow? I have just over 1 acre and I went from a 42" craftsman riding mower to a 46" zero turn Husqvarna last year and that shaved my time from 3 hours down to 1.5.

I went in to buy a new tractor and the zero turn was about $500 more. It hurt when I swiped the credit card, but I am so glad that I did now.

Bad boy makes a strong deck. However I would avoid a Briggs & Stratton motor at all costs. I know some of the Bad Boy motors come with a Kawasaki motor, that would not be bad. Really just as long as you avoid a Husqvarna deck and Briggs motors you cannot go wrong. I know some people have had good luck with Husqvarna but in my experience the deck deteriorates quickly.

I would do it again in a heart beat. the maneuverability when you are cutting around gardens, trees, fences etc is night and day. I also have a 10 cu ft trailer that I pull around with it and its great.

I spent $2600 for my zero turn. I couldn't see buying a scag or any of the professional mowers. its overkill when they are being measured in acre's per hour.

I second the Honda engine. Have a 42" Deere entry level to handle the big open spaces (1 acre) and a yardsman push mower with a honda to get into the tight spots. Takes me 1.5 hrs.

I'd look at the JD's that simulates zero turn. For ½ acre that's probably all ya need.

I really like Wahl. Not super expensive but gets the job done. Attachments give you a wide variety of lengths for different occasions.

Blades are sharp, really great charge time (I charge mine once every few months), water proof, good rust coating - definitely for the man who wants a reliable chop but doesn't want to compromise on price.

That baby will last you 2-3 trips on one charge. As I said, clean cut - sharp blades. Perfect for that landing strip I know you love to sport.
