Have any of y'all really beat on this thing? Maybe it's gusseted really well but seems thin for a heavy ass truck like ours.

Some have and the skid will bend. A guy with a sweet long travel tundra had them on his old truck and they had a hard life. Not sure what is on his new truck. Junebug I think.

Thank you for the video! Definitely will help! About to purchase a RCI front skid plate for my 2019 Tundra. Been talking to RCI last few days about what they recommend. Steel or Aluminum. For those of you that have the Skid Plate already, can you tell me what you chose and why? I know the steel is heavier than aluminum. I'm not going to be rock crawling, but will be taking it off road on logging and forest roads. Mostly a daily driver. Thank you!

This takes hardly anytime at all. I bought the full engine/ transmission skids and I don't think it took 30-45 minutes tops. Felt like it took longer to get everything out and ready and then put tools away/clean up took longer than the install.

Good to hear! Between work and the cold rainy weather we've been having I haven't wanted to get out and install them.
I need to do an oil change also so ill probably do that while I have the skids dropped then enjoy never having to drop the skids to change the oil again! lol

I also bought mine during black friday sale (thank you @RCIoffroad ). I'd recommend using a floor jack or have a buddy help. I balanced mine on a floor jack then loosely installed all the bolts and fasteners. Like said above, about a 30 min job. Will probably get the transmission protection next black friday if funding is available. :D

I am looking forward to putting mine on. I actually ordered the engine and transmission skid in July when I first bought the truck. Think it arrived in September. Still have not put it on as I was waffling on what suspension to order. When I finally decided on suspension I was a couple weeks away from Black Friday so ordered the suspension then.
They say I am still 6 weeks out from my suspension arriving.

I had RCI skid plates on my Expedition before the Tundra and they are solid! I bought Steel because they are cheaper and the off-roading I do here has lots of rocks and I see quite a few impacts compared to just scraping.

No prob, thanks for watching!...and I apologize, I haven’t been on here in awhile due to the holidays and the fam, just catching up now...I went with the aluminum just because of the weight difference but it wasn’t a huge deal to me, I think I would have been happy with either!

Went out to install my skit plate and ran into some issues. Maybe just with my inexperience.

Anyone not get half moon washers? I just got two big round washers. Nothing was cut to look like a moon.

Also, anyone know what order the rear carriage bolts go? I think RCI added some new items.

They're closed now, so I may need to call them tomorrow.

    Thanks!

Do the large washers look about the size of the ones in the pic above that are half moon? Honestly I'm not sure what the point of the half moon design is.

If that's the case then I'd mount it up with them. When I mounted mine (with the half moon washers) I was looking at them and not understanding why they didn't just leave them as full washers.... there is no reason for it that I could see. The benefit to me, would to be using full washers.

The "half moons" cover the cross member frame holes to provide a better fastening point on the cross member.

Yes, I get that, but I didn't see the benefit of it being half moon versus full round washers..... there isn't anything blocking it from the full washer covering the same spot.

You need the half moons to cover the larger cross member holes to provide support for the full round washers. Just sayin from experience with my RCI skids that I installed on my 07.

I'm clear that it's to cover the cross member hole....I have this same skid plate on my truck and there's not a reason that I can see for needing specifically moon shaped washers versus full circular washers. There isn't a notch or anything in the way of covering the holes where a moon washer is needed over a circular one....I feel like your missing what I'm saying

Not missing what you are saying at all. See post #79. Pic shows proper placement of "thick" sort of half moon shaped washer to provide a better fastening point for the provided fender style washers so you can torque them down without warping them, unless you are using a larger round fender style washer that is at least as thick and wide as the supplied crossmember washers then you should be good to go.

Gotcha.... basically the same as I was saying that the round washer..... as long as it's a large one will work as well.

I just spoke to RCI and about big washer and why it's not moon shaped. I guess they were cutting that washer in house to help fit the Rock sliders to the frame. So they would just use the half moon washer for the skid plate too. But now they're having an outside vendor supply the package with the bolts and washers. So the skid plate doesn't come with moon washers anymore. Also, they included retaining washers for the bolts. Not sure if they were included before. There's actually a retaining washer on the carriage bolt there in the picture. And they two smaller retainers for bolts in the front.
