I owned three dodge rams and over 8 transmission. Never waste my money on another high maintenance pain in the ass. Have had 318, Hemi 4x4 and 5.9 Cummins. All the engines were great, rest of powertrain was nothing but issues.

That’s exactly what I said about my Ram , if I have any problems with it I’ll post it on here .

That's the wife's truck - so pretty easy for me to directly compare them. She has a 2020 1500 Classic Warlock

The fuel mileage is damn close, it's just at the edge of the break in period but so far they're close enough to call them equal.
I don't notice a difference in ride stiffness, it's a truck - only pickup that's not stiff are F150's but they're so soft you don't feel the road
Interior storage is the same, but I have a DC so it comes with the under seat storage (which I took out to put a sub in...), put in ESP storage and it's the same for a Crewmax. Sound system doesn't sound that great, my upgraded Tundra (Tech12Volts system) is much, much better than the Ram. The steering is a little harder to turn (Tundra takes 1 finger, Ram takes a little grip), but same responsiveness to the Tundra.

Some things I like on the Ram - transmission shifts so quick, the Tundra asks you if you're sure you want to downshift, the Ram just goes down before you even touch the throttle it feels like. It has a heated steering wheel. Bed lights work good and aren't huge.

Some things I don't like on the Ram - damn shifter dial, want to save space get a column shifter. No dampened tailgate, but I'll get that fixed in the spring. Less spots to put a light bar, wife drives through the country so I'll be adding one in the spring. Doesn't have LED lights. The TC system takes a while to engage, it acts like the Tundra does with a single TC button push - as someone who drives on icy roads this means the Ram is a lot more nerve wracking, the Tundra hits black ice but corrects itself before I feel anything.

There's really not much between them in all honesty. I definitely trust the Tundra more, so don't mind having the Ram as a second vehicle. Only reason we got it was wife's previous car (Hyundai Tucson) was having major engine issues and Ram gives insane trade value, was nearly double any other dealer.

The things you mentioned as negatives for the Tundra can be fixed for the most part - you can add in rear storage, remote start, and a better audio system. It'll cost you about $2k for all 3 things.

That is a nice looking truck too , pretty much a 4th gen Rebel without the air ride . Do you have the 8.4 “ screen and does it have the alpine stereo ? Just curious .

Pretty sure it doesn't have the Alpine, but it does have the 8.4 screen - which gets incredibly hot and you can barely touch after an hour

Yep I got that. On the Ram you can get in the truck, without it shutting off and it has two 15 minute times before lock out as opposed to two 10 minute times on the Tundra, but I never ran it that long. Thanks for looking out.

If you can't fix the roads trade the truck. I have had zero bed bounce. I've had a Dodge, two Titans and now the Tundra. My friend drives a Ram and loves it. I'll take the Tundra any day.

I would definitely drive this Dodge, a new one, no thanks. I wonder how big the touch screen is in this bad boy. :monocle:

That's what I figure. Figure when it goes in for first oil change I'll mention it, although I'd rather them not go into the rabbit hole, wouldn't be surprised if it came back worse than it was. With just a quick google it's not the only case, and of course no solution in the threads I went into.

Wow your MPG suck, I put on 111K and average 14-16 MPG and that on 86 octane with no issues, driving around So Cal (incl LA) doing 70-80 MPH when traffic is flowing, just filled up at Costco $2.75 per gallon, and my truck and or bed does not bounce, I've got the lucky 2016 made on Wednesday one:)

If little things bother you, I would recommend against a Ram, or any domestic, really.

We ended up selling the PW private party a month or so after getting the diesel. The tundra quickly showed its age compared to the fancy things on the Ram, I ended up selling the Tundra over the summer. I wish we would’ve kept the PW. I think there’s been a lot of regrets selling that thing. We do know the new owners and get first dibs if they ever decide to sell it. There’s been a lot of regrets with this diesel, its nice but we sold the camper so we don’t really need it anymore. We are considering going back to a gas 2500 or 3500 at some point.

It is interesting what folks find important. Tundra showed it age due to the fancy things.. Do the fancy things include LED lighting you can adjust colors (novelty wears off in a week), adjustable pedals (you adjust once), LED dashes you quit playing with after a week, panoramic sunroof that your scared to open as the plastic tracks will break and the dealer has them backorders for months, I loved the PVD wheels on my 2017 F250. They were SOOO Easy to clean, vs chrome bumpers that i had to use polish to get the road residue off. Oh almost forgot the PVD wheels, yea they chip and then sometime when you get a tire replaced the coating peals off around the perimeter, hope you are still under warranty. Warranty don't cover chips though. I love cameras they were superior, again make sure you have the warranty the cloud over in about 20 months. A lot of the fancy things were second nature since i had ticking sound that i couldn't find for months, drove me absolute nuts. I was lucky a guy at work would spend every weekend hunting rattle his F150 (same cab as F250) and he would tell me how to fix them. I also was annoyed the creaks and cracks the dash would make for about 2 miles each morning but then pretty quite after that. Man my chrome tail pipe and tie down hooks, rust after 6 months. How the heck do the wiper blades on my 2001 Lexus last 18 months but the ford squeak after 3 months? Radio sucked in F250 and sucks in Tundra.

I like fancy things like Rolex watches, jewelry, houses, as far as transportation just get me from "a" to "b".

I don’t think the brand inspires much loyalty. Everyone I know who owned a Ram now owns something else.

I may be able to help. I have both.

For my personal rig I have a 14 Tundra. For my work vehicle I drive a 2016 Ram with a 5.7 Hemi.

My Tundra is pushing 100k. The Ram has 68k

I will admit the Hemi engine has good, usable power and seems very rev happy. I've enjoyed it. I will note that we have 7 Rams in the fleet of varying tonnage, the oldest is a 2013. We use the trucks as trucks. We tow with them, fill the beds with crap, tow with them and the only time they see pavement is when we're taking them back to the office for the night.

Overall, they're junk. Getting back in my Tundra after diving Rams all day is a relief. The build quality on the Rams is abysmal (they look good though). After 15k miles they start squeaking and rattling etc. They are always in the shop for electrical issues and, generally, are just falling apart despite being impeccably maintained to a T!

It's telling when the fleet lot is all Rams, Chevys and Fords and the employee lot is all Toyotas.

I had a 18 1500 laramie. It was my first new vehicle and I had owned multiple dodge/ram vehicles throughout my life, my dad as well. I guess you could say we were ram guys.

I know my experience is my experience and it's anecdotal but i doubt I would go back to ram. A big part of the problem was the dealership which is a problem specific to my region but I will tell you if you get the ram make sure you like your dealership because you're going to get to know them really well.

I don't know if I like my toyota dealership or not because I hadn't had to go there.

The rams are some of the most tech enabled vehicles on the road. Throw in the premium alpine sound system with the sub and it's a crazy good looking and sounding truck... Until the electrical starts to fail like it did in mine after about 3 weeks. Then it's trip after trip to the dealership where they try to find the gremlin.

I'm not thrilled about the mpg on my 20 trd pro but I'll take it as a cost of doing business with peace of mind.

I tow an 8lb camper that is right on the border of ability for my truck but it's right on the border of ability for jury about any half ton. The only thing that would get me to go away from the tundra is a diesel and I would likely go ford.

    Good luck.

    Regrets =

Probably overkill vs 6.4 since no more camper

    Silver not White

    Sport not Night edition

    DEF usage

    19-20 is CP4

    Dealing with the dealer initially

Will dislike commuting in diesel if I go back

    Minimal MPG gain

I’ve always been a Toyota guy and for a 1500 I wouldn’t trade it for anything else. If I were to go up to a 2500 definitely would be a diesel. I have never owned a ram but have friends that are really happy with their diesel 2500 Rams. I would stay away from anything domestic that isn’t a diesel but that’s just my opinion for whatever it is worth.

I had a diesel, when towing second to none. period. don't tow with a diesel you will be happier towing with gas. That being said the other 99.5% i was driving my 6.7liter F250 it was to much TRUCK. Diesel torque is addictive, sound is fantastic, and you know you cant hurt it. Other than that draining fuel separating filter every couple months SUCKED, turning radius sucked, ride was horrific, Ford uses straight axle on 3/4ton talk about antiquated. holy hell. Oh and when you high pressure fuel pump craps out try $12K. Way to complex, my tundra is a joke under the hood compared to my diesel. again if i owned a 30 foot plus RV or a 26 foot plus boat, sure but I have to admit I probably go 3/4 ton gas or at least try, to much exposure on diesel.

I was getting 16 mpg on F250 BUT Diesel fuel cost was 1.99 while gas was 1.65 so Tundra cost per mile less the way i used it. Tundra cant tow 15Klbs at 78 mph for 800 miles, lol while you are playing with the radio. I literally drove through a hurricane pulling my boat, loved it, rain drowned out the ticking noise that drove me crazy ,lol

I was actually shopping ram. It’s what I wanted. Wanted a Rebel with pano roof and Harmon Kardon 19 speaker sound and 12” display.
Couldn’t find one that wasn’t black. My 17 Titan was black and my 10 Ram was black, and wasn’t gonna do that again. Saw some YouTube vids from Untamed and loved the look of the TRD Pro. I have always thought the tundra was a good reliable truck that looks really good, but was missing a ton of tech that I love.

found a deal 2 hrs away that I couldn’t refuse. $1k off a Lunar Rock TRD Pro and they gave me $7k more for my trade in than KBB in good shape. Couldn’t turn that down. Ram dealer was offering $10k less on my trade.

I love the look of my new Tundra. Just 350 miles so far. Going to put 295/70r/18 Wildpeaks on it. Tint it, and add TRD Pro inlays. Get a tonneau (Lomax) and likely call it a day. May get some vinyl wrapping on the grey plastic on the interior. That’s about it. I drive 35,000 to 45,000 miles a year as it’s my mobile office.

of course there are some things (inside) I’d love it to have but that can wait.

only on my first tank of gas. But my gas mileage is been horrible. I was expecting 13sh but averaged 11mpg on the first tank. Will hate to see it with the bigger tires too. Maybe just needs more break in. The good news is work pays for my gas.

11mpg is rough. I have 1,800 miles on mine and my average 14.8 mpg, all stop and go around town.

If i wanted the spend the money and had to chose a new Dodge or this antique one, for the same money I would buy the antique one hands down. I would never buy a new Dodge/Chrysler anything.
