Amazing the difference in size between an old school, pure ski boat and one of the new wake boats. That thing is ginormous!

It's pretty amazing the size difference between the ProStar then and newer ones also because I have owned both and they sure have grown.

    I used to tow a 21 foot Moomba (~ 4,000 lb, ~ 250 lb tongue weight).

I just recently upgraded the boat to a MasterCraft X55 (~ 7,500 lb - 550 lb tongue weight).

I towed the MasterCraft home about 70 miles and it went ok - I was planning for a WD hitch. But, after running all the numbers with family and equipment in the truck, the payload will be exceeded by 400 lb minimum (and the kids are still growing). I LOVE my Tundra and will confess I would have tolerated being over payload by 50lbs, but being hundreds over payload capacity, driving across the Southern California desert in the summer with my whole life in the cab makes this engineer pretty uncomfortable. I'll be taking the winter to find an HD truck and saying goodbye to a 7 year streak of Tundra ownership.

Wow that MC is really 7500 lbs on the trailer?! If so that is a heavy boat for it's size. I probably would've guessed 5000-6000 lbs ready to tow. I've towed boats of all sized with my Tundra and have found that windage affects the truck more than weight. I rescued some friends last year and towed their 24 ft Stingray and a family of 4 about 40 miles. The boat was definitely heavier than my 21' center console, but the bowrider towed better. Pretty sure it was because of the lower overall profile.

Yea, its quite heavy. If I towed it with a full tank of gas it would be even heavier. The trailer GVWR is 8500 lbs.

That's a hefty trailer. Does that model MC have ballast tanks? If so she's probably crazy heavy when they're full.

Sure does! It has 3 hard tanks all under the floor. 480-lb. center tank where a conventional floor ski locker would be and two 320-lb. rear tanks. It has a 90 gallon fuel tank to feed the 8.1L V8. Its a heavy beast. I won't do it, but I know other owners like to put additional ballast bags in the lockers for even more weight. Some even put lead weights in their boats.

Wow that's a lot of fuel for a lake and river boat....but that's a huge motor too. Probably thirsty. Does it have a two speed trans for surfing?

2019 Tundra CrewMax Limited Premium 4x4
    2018 Grand Design Imagine 2800BH (32' bunkhouse)

    Door sticker payload= 1,127
    GCWR= 15,160 (max for truck + trailer)
TWR= 8,800 (max weight of trailer)
Trailer Tongue Weight = approx 700 (estimating 10%-11% of trailer weight)
    Two anti-sway bars installed.

Myself, wife, 2 small kids in car seats, 45lb hitch puts us right at or even slightly over our payload. Tows it with ease. We have gone on 13 camping trips totaling 5,656 miles so far. I stick to around 70mph or less, but it has no problem hitting 80mph if I need to. If I felt like the truck struggled or had issues with sway than I would have upgraded. If I felt unsafe at all during all those miles than I would not be putting my family in it. So far, the Tundra has been impressive. Gas mileage sucks though- average about 6.5 to 7 on flat ground averaging 70.

I am not a fan of maxing or exceeding capacities, but to put it in perspective our Sienna minivan has a sticker payload capacity of 1,100 lbs. Tundras, for whatever reason, have a very conservative payload capacity.

I basically have the same truck/trailer combo but with a small lift and 295/70-18 tires. I believe you are underestimating your true hitch weight, especially if you are loading up the pass thru.

Just FYI most trailer tires are only rated to 72 mph, so I’d be careful pulling a trailer at those speeds.

Thursday I pulled an 18' car-hauler trailer with 2,600 pounds of flooring, 800 pounds of log stair treads, and 960 pounds of log stringers 40 miles to a job site with a truck like this:

If you're surfing you typically will put a lower pitch prop on so the engine can run closer to its sweet spot when you're going the required speed for surfing. Surfing isn't really my thing though so I run a standard pitch prop.

Just picked up this bad boy. Forest River 26DBH-L. 7600 GVWR and the tundra towed it with ease. I had a Husky TS installed and it helped a lot. There was high winds bringing it home and it handled good. Have a few trips planned this summer. Big one is going to Yellowstone.

Thats the exact trailer we were going to get to fit the tundra, but decided it was too big. That sucker is 31’ long. I feel the winds towing our 31’ with my 3/4 ton when it’s blowing 20-30+. Awesome Rv though
