Lift questions

Hello everyone,
I'm new to this forum just like I am to my 2012 crew max Tundra I purchased today. I appreciate the add! I have tried to read a little bit before I asked the same question that's probably been asked a thousand time already. But I only have until tomorrow morning to figure it out. I have read many posts about lifts on other sites and have found multiple answers so I was hoping someone could help me.

I want to lift my 2012 crew max and have been looking at the pro comp 6 inch kit with coilovers ..... and the bds 7inch lift without coilovers. I really really don't want to spend the money for the bds lift but the pro comp is around 2800 ( not that much cheaper ). Does the pro comp come with EVERY single thing I need? Is it problem free as far as axle angles, alignment, and over all geometry ? Is anyone running this lift with pictures ? Can I run a 37x12.50x20 with a 6 inch lift as long as I have the correct offset,backspacing and trim the front bumper? If someone could give me some input or advice I would really appreciate it !! do you want to go that high or 2.5/3" enough ? if yes, look into the Toytec BOSS kit. You can fit 35" will remaining off road worthy.

The higher you go, the more problematic it will be in the long run so be ready to fork some $$$

 

Hey thanks for replying. I've been thinking along time about this before I purchased the truck. I do want atleast a 6 inch lift I've wanted a raised Tundra my whole life. And I will check it out that lift kit now! The reason I'm so worried and want some help is I had a Tacoma the last 14 years and constantly had to replace cv axles and boots because of angle problems. If I should go bds and thats the bottom line I will. I just figured with the comp kit and coilovers I would have a little adjustment if needed. I'm just ready to have a lifted truck with slim to no issues.

 

I've run PC 6" Stage II (I believe this is what you're looking at) on both my FJ and as a recent addition to my 2016 Tundra. The kit does come with everything, with the exception of wheels/tires. PC recommends 35" rubber at a max, but like anything else, those are the lawyer's rules. I'm running 35s x 12.5 on 18s and was trying to envision 37" on the current set up. Don't they bj it would work well without some extensive mods. BMC for one and definitely would have to trim/remove wheel well covers. I believe PC makes a 7" as well that will clear the 37s with no issues, but that setup reused the stock front shocks. Looks alright, but your going to get a ton of body roll. The PC coilovers are a definite improvement.

Oh, and my FJ went 60k+ miles on the lift before a shock rebuild was in order. I was pretty happy with it, and tat thing was USED...a LOT!

That's a very nice clean looking truck. See I'm with you on having to add more mods. The shop lifting it said that I should be totally fine with the 6 inch and 37's . I do strictly only plan on driving the Tundra on the road. That's why I wanted to ask some questions about what people thought I should do.

7" with 37"s will be a money pit fyi in case you didn't want to spend too much.

Money pit as in normal wear and tear? Or something that shouldn't happen like my Tacoma replacing cv axles all the time ? I mean I know lift kits are hard and stressful on parts and the truck period. But i guess I'm just wondering if I spend the extra money for a "good" lift will it be worth it and I have normal problems or expensive problems that shouldn't happen ?

 

Did someone say BDS 7"? Here's an idea of what you can have (I'm technically not cranked all the way to 7" right now); I've been running the kit perfectly fine and I don't baby my truck (see my Instagram: SPVRTAN)..







..and this was my FJ Cruiser (3" lift) that I sold before I got my Tundra..

 

quicker wear and tear, gas mileage, price of kit + 37"s, re-gearing most likely if going the 37's route..etc..

bottom line, any time you modify a stock truck, it will cost you more at the end. Just be ready for it.

I have a pro comp stage 2 with 35's on 20's. Love the ride, like stock. I don't do much off roading but love the beach and it's fun in the sand. Also gonna wanna regear your differential when you go that high, not necessary if you have tow package but having the power back is worth it. Also if your 4x4 then you'll need both diffs done. I got about $10k in lift, tires, wheels and gears just to give you a ball park figure of what youll be spending

Davesnothere thanks for the imput. I dont plan on wheeling the truck mostly just road travel. So with the exact lift you have could you run a 37 on it ?? What size offset are u running on the 20's ? Do you have some pictures ? And did the 35's make that big of a difference that u had to regear ? Or u just wanted to do it for the power and we'll being of the truck ?

 

usually 35"s no need to re-gear but 37"s yes.

 

I have looked at them. Is that what you recommend ?? I'm with you 100% I don't want a money pit. I haven't read many bad reviews on the bds. That's why I figured I would ask about it. And the reason I keep asking about a 6 inch and 37's is because I can keep my warranty with a 6 inch lift where the 7 voids it

 

That's the look I want I was assuming it was a 6 inch with 37's. I could be totally wrong though

 

Guess you could run 37's, don't know offset, and I regeared cause I tow stuff, boat, RV and construction materials at times. But you will lose power when you do a big lift due to weight added, plus the tire size. Again not really necessary with 35's but with 37's it's a must. Checkout bulletproof lift it's the way to go from the start. Then you can run up to 40's make it big from the start if that's what your after. Bulletproof is what I just wish I would have started with. I'm at about 8 inches of lift now. But 10-12 inches looks great.

 

BDS 7" 35x12.5r20 that will be replaced with 37x13+ and will most likely regear before the tires. My truck down shifts on inclines with the stock gearing.

 

I like PC's kit because it has the support bars behind the rear of the bracket but I like the BDS kit because it has a skid plate (which I've already beat up). I'm not 100% sure but I think PC does now offer a skid for their kit as an option. I'm running 37s fine with no power loss only because I have a supercharger. I'm going to 40s soon and will regear for sure.

 

I run 37's with stock gears also if you use the tow/haul button there is no noticeable difference at all.what offset rims are going to let you run 40's? How much lift do you have?
