I only get one cup a week...the rest of the week I have to caffeinate with tea. Not as rewarding, but it keeps me together.

Today was the worst day yet this week. People have lost their minds at work. The holiday cannot get here fast enough....five more days

 

My schedule gives no f***s about holidays, but I cannot complain. I just miss coffee.

I don't really drink caffeine anymore either, or at least I don't seek it out. I have some herbal ice tea that I drink, but hibiscus and cherry don't have caffeine. I just need something with more flavor than water is all. I try to limit soda to the times I eat out, but I don't avoid caffeine then. I just order whatever sounds good.

Missing coffee is more just the habit of having a warm drink to start the shift, and the caffeine mellows me out a bit. I used to drink a few cups of coffee to handle anxiety/stress and then I would go to sleep.

 

I'm with ya man, just starting night 2 of 3 for this week.
Next 3 weeks are day shift

 

I do love that my schedule is consistent. It makes it easy to make plans. I have a brother that works the same type of 12 hour shifts, 6 to 6, but they do his schedule all wonky. He never works more than 4 days in a row, but it's a few day shift, then a day or two off, then some nights, days off, days, and so on. I think he gets 5-7 days off once a month as a long change. I couldn't do it. The flip flopping would kill me.

 

Talk about a crap week. Had to take the kids to our local VCA Pet Emergency Hospital and have our 6yr old dog put to sleep! They diagnosed him with IMHA. Tried two blood transfusions, but it just wasn’t meant to be. Vet said they checked everything. Could not find any illness at all in his body.
He just got his yearly vaccinations November 21st. They think the vaccinations triggered the IMHA.

That's funny, sounds really close to my shift. I'm on a 5 week rotation, the 5th week being off for 7 days.
I don't work more than 4 days in a row, unless it's overtime.
I work a total of 7 nights over the 5 week stretch. The flip flopping isn't ideal but I've got it down now, for the most part.

What line of work is your brother in?

 

He works for a chemical plant.

I'll take my schedule any day. Best I've had for a 24/7 operation. We work 7 on, 7 off. Nights, off, days, off, etc.

 

I'd take that for sure, do you have OT built into your schedule?
I'm a journeyman wireman at a hydroelectric project (dam electrician).
What's your industry if you don't mind?

 

Some OT built into it. We work Wednesday through Tuesday, and the pay week resets at midnight Sunday morning.

I work in telecom.

 

Check these out if you have them in your area, basically water with vitamins and green tea extract. Zero sugar, 5 calories and only 70mg of caffeine so they're not energy drinky.

I saw that on the news yesterday and immediately thought of two Rons. You, and a guy I've known/worked with for 20 years.

Pinball is all the rage with hipsters right now. There are a couple of bars in downtown Seattle that are all pinball, old school arcade games and Rainier beer. It's actually pretty fun...not only because my Grunt Style t-shirts offend the sensitive ones.

I'd definitely put a few like that in my (dreaming of) man cave. Not sure I want to pay the LZ premium however.

I had a guy greif me over my "Nuke Mars" t-shirt until I told him it was a Elon Musk comment the everything was a great idea.

 

What comment was this? I don't know the story because I pretty much live under a rock.


I always liked the "Nuke the Whales" posters.

Yeah, such is life these days. The flag is offensive and an idea’s merits are determined by who said them, not what was said.

But, it is Friday on my calendar so I’m happy. I’ve had to reschedule my “going driving” day twice, but it appears to be holding on Sunday. Now if the mountain passes would only get some snow.
