Beating a dead horse. :) Weathertech, Husky, or OEM all weather and why

I still use the OEM rubber mats. They move around some. Not great, but I don't get much dirt in there anyway.

Had Husky in my wife's 08 Acadia, and now in her 13 Explorer. They're great. The 500,000 spikes underneath are sharp as shit, but they don't move an inch. My wife dropped a 32oz drink into the passenger floor one time and not only did it take the whole thing, but I was able to remove the mat and dump it without even bothering to soak anything up.

I had weathertech in my 16 mustang. Good mats, but I'll probably buy Husky for the Tundra at some point.

The real test on the Husky should be my sister in-law's Traverse. We gave her the Huskys when we traded the Acadia, and she and her kids (teenagers/adults) are literally the worst I've ever seen when it comes to brutalizing the inside of a vehicle. There's probably a garden growing in all the dirt and McD's trash around them, but under the mats it probably looks much better..lol

One beef I have with Husky and Weathertech is the stick-on labels not staying put. They've come off on all of ours. I even bought a set of Huskys for my dad's ram and I think they've come off on those as well. He doesn't put a lot of miles on it or do anything messy, so I think it's just crappy adhesive. Seems ridiculous for $200 mats.

 

Whenever I buy Mats, I use Coco Mats. Currently have the OEM mats, which are pretty good. When they wear out will order up a full front and rear set from cocomats.com

 

Wow, i just looked at these matts and i agree, they look awesome and very well made. I am trying to order a set but they are out of stock, sent them an email though. they are very sharp looking.

 

I've purchased WeatherTeach floor liners for every vehicle that I have bought for over 10 years. 2003 Honda Pilot, 2013 Honda Fit, 2013 Honda CR-V, 2015 Subaru Forester XT, 2017 Honda CRV, 2017 Mazda 3 GT hatchback, 2018 Honda Pilot, and 2020 Toyota Tundra. They have always held up well and kept the slush and salt off the carpets. I am sure the other brands listed do a great job as well, much better so than the overpriced, flimsy OEM mats.

Another vote for the 3d maxpider Kagu mats. I put a set in my truck recently and am very happy with them. No plasticky looking mats here!

Just an FYI - for those with OEM floor mats that move around... I used the Eagle Klaw floor mat retainer clips and they worked well. No drilling, cutting, etc. I ended up getting Husky Xact Contour liners in the end to match the rear mat I put in.

Ok, just going to sum things up here really quick: People don't like the Weathertechs cause they curl, most people are happy with Husky's, Gators are made by Husky... There are pictures of all all these in various threads in various models of Tundras. There are good comments here and there about 3DMaxpider - but no pics except these poor quality ones in a CM... https://www.tundratalk.net/threads/3d-mats.119971/#lg=thread-119971&slide=2. I'd really like to see some good pictures of them in a 2nd gen DC.

 

Is that rear mat Husky part # 53841? If so, two follow up questions:
- why doesn’t it cover the side of the carpet under the seat, is that how they’re making it now?
- from what you can tell is the mat’l type, surface finish and thickness the same as the front mats (part # 53711)?

 

I just bought the X-Act Contour fronts and it's all the same stuff. Why it doesn't cover the sides in that part of the rear, I don't know, but it doesn't bother me. The Husky mats are replacing two year old OEM mats that are grey now with less coverage.

But honestly I’ve always been happiest with Weathertech. I’ve not had Toyota oem, have had husky 2x (both times unhappy) and Weathertech on 4 vehicles now (all happy customer). I think the drivers side husky’s are amazing. But I don’t like the passenger side screw down into carpet spike deal (I don’t know what Weathertech does For the Tundra) but it doesn’t ever stay put.
I’ve never liked a husky rear liner either time I’ve tried them. They don’t fit as well as Weathertech. They’re made out of different plastic than the front with husky. It’s not quite right.
But honestly pick one and let it rip around here haha. I am currently running Husky in the Tundra but would personally trade for Weathertech if I could break even. My 2019 Honda Pilot has Weathertech and they are just better all around including aesthetics imo.

 

I'll throw one more into the mix...

Tuxmat. They are still fairly new, so can't say how they hold up long term. The coverage is excellent, they extend up past the dead pedal, across behind the throttle and brake pedals and up to the plastic console/carpet interface. In the rear floor area, they wrap all the way back to the C pillar and provide pretty decent under seat coverage. There is a bunch of plastic clips included that attach to the edge of the mat and slide under the trucks plastic bits to keep everything in place. It's up to you where they go, you just clip them on where you see fit

The only potential down fall is where the mat meets the door thresholds. It just sits flush with the plastic, there isn't any overlap so there might be some water/grime intrusion onto the carpet along the edges. Guess I'll know for sure come spring when she gets a thorough vacuum and cleaning

Ordered the new Weathertech HP Liners. Rubber feeling like a Husky, but better coverage in the floor. These are an upgrade over the regular Liners they have made for years that curl on the edges.

Yeah, I'm excited. The rubber mats that came with my truck are really nice, but do not offer good coverage. I'll post thoughts and pics once I get them.

 

These sound like just the ticket for my passenger side WeatherTech.

What size drill bit do I need for the install?

 

I like those a lot. If I had seen them earlier, I would have gone that route - probably keeping the factory 1794 mats on top of them for a bit of extra comfort.

I have the 3d maxspiders and am happy with them so far. Unfortunately, I don't seem to be able to post pics from this computer.

 

No drilling required. The kit comes with a punch to make a small hole in the floor mat for attaching the anchor. The anchor has tiny little spikes that dig into your carpet to keep the mat in place. Leaves no mark on your carpet either.

I prefer the look and finish of the front covers, as well as that of the rear mat cover on the WT's over the Husky's myself. It's odd though...the part number is the same for the rear as previous generations. So I'm confused as to whether or not it too has been updated to the new material, or if it's just a continuation of the older version. Saw a post by someone else that auto anything insisted that it too was the same material at the HP material of the front mats? Can you confirm? Thanks in advanced!

I have WeatherTech on the back, but would have got this if I knew. It appears to have even better coverage.

 

I have Weathertech in my truck and Husky in my wife's 4runner. Husky all the way, they are lifetime guarantee WT only has a couple of years. My passenger mat does not stay in well and slides everywhere. I had to rig it so it stopped that. Husky has the little gripers under the mat that keeps it in place. This probably would not be an issue if my passenger floor had locks like the driver's side. My dad went with Husky in his new Tundra because of this also.
