Does getting a new tire effect the vehicle.

I have a nail in my tire wall that can’t be patched, but I have a road hazard warranty and they are replacing it for 19 bucks. The tire guy recommended replacing the other three for 511 dollars.

Is it ok to just replace one and keep the new tire in front or do you guys recommend replacing all four? Would just replacing one damage the truck?

Depends on how much wear the tires have. If they are near the end of life i would get a new full set. But if there was still a good amount of tread left on 3, and they were not old (tires have a shelf life, usually around 8 years) I would just replace the one that was flat.

So, it depends on the condition and age of the other tires....what is the tread depth and age of the other good tires?

 

So the tires are about 1 year old with about 20k miles put on them.

The tire guy said the other three tire depths are at 6/32, 12/32, and 10/32. He said the new tire he is putting on the depth would be 15/32.

 

I’d replace two if you can get the same tires to match the two best old ones. Keep the new ones together on the back.

 

I'd do this too. Plus get an alignment. Something's causing uneven wear.

 

Get two new ones. Replace the 6/32. Your greatest variance overall would be shortened by 1/32.

So after talking with the tire guy turns out when I bought the new tires a year ago they put on three LT tires and one passenger rated tire and I have been driving for a year with a different tire. That was the tire that had the depth of 6/32.

He called his manager and they are giving me a new tire for free, but I just have to pay install and warranty but he said it may have messed up my transmission for driving on three LT tires and one passenger rated tire for a year.

I called the Toyota dealership just now and they can’t check the transmission. They can only try to diagnose what was wrong if I had transmission problems later.

 

Do you guys think I should find a place that will check the transmission or wait and see if I have problems down the road

 

If your spare is still brand new take that off and pair it with the new tire. Take the 6/32 and put it on the spare. Now you'll have two brand new and a 10/32 and a 12/32. Which isn't a big deal

 

How could an off-sized tire affect the transmission? Wouldn't it be the differential?
I doubt there is any damage or excessive wear to your differential. When that tire was on the front, it wouldn't matter. When on the rear it would, but that would depend on what tire was on there with it. It would take years of this to damage your diff gears. There is a chance it could have caused excessive heat in the diff, so I'd maybe change the fluid, check the plug for shavings and not worry about it.
