I replaced the gasket to take care of that frequency noise but now I have the whistle.

ya some folks are saying it’s the harmonics of the exhaust which it might be but it’s pretty damn bad

Some of the vibrations, pulsation, clicks , clunks, pops, etc. disappear after a while or maybe we get used to it :D New cars need to break in ...

I used to feel a pulsation in the steering wheel in 5th or 6th gear at about 50-55mph and rpm near 2000 ... But I can no longer reproduce it.

My 21 has 3k miles with no problems. Hopefully you get things figured out because other makes will leave you stranded at the dealer more than once.

I notice a vibration in my seat when the truck is idling on my driveway but I just figured it's the big V8 warming up.

    I have a ‘21 CM 4x4 SX too. Only 1700 miles.

no known issues per say minus some noises similar to what you describe but hard for me to confirm that they are in fact issues.

Where do I check manufacture date? Inside the driver door panel??

I hear a faint whistling intermittently out of the front right of the vehicle sometimes when I give it some gas on the highway but nothing excessive. Curious as to how you pinpointed the rear Diff and if I’m missing something. I’ll listen for it tomorrow and document the conditions.

My 2011 2WD DC made the “thud” in gear right after start up so it seems/seemed normal to me.

mine roars at start up because of what I think is a 381-hp v8 engine and is normal?

only real issue I have is my toddler peed in the carseat a few days ago...

The whistle you are hearing while acceleration may be the varmit screen (air flow over the screen) in the intake ducting to the engine. The same ductwork that connects the air cleaner.

I have seen that posted numerous times.

I just picked up a 21 SR5 TRD Sport. Now you guys have me paranoid. Coming from a Tacoma, I saw the same thing on Tacomaworld.

This is my first V8, so I thought the fan roar was just normal. I checked this morning and I think it went away after about 60 seconds. The clunk I think ive noticed, but then again I felt that from time to time on my Tacoma too so I just wrote it off as being normal.

The only legitimately annoying thing has been the bed noise over rough roads. Sounds like a creaking spring. Im hoping it goes away when I have it fluid filmed. My Tacoma made the same noise.

    Those sounds are normal.

The bed noise could be something different. I thought mine was squeaking. Turns out it was the rear leather seats rubbing the rear of the cab. I put some furniture sliders in between and my rear squeaking and creaking went away.

The clunk is the ABS. It activates when first moving move than a few MPH and is nothing wrong.

I had this on my 2010 Tacoma. When I heard on my new Tundra I knew it was working properly! No big deal.

as Timsp8 said, the roar at startup is normal. As the fan sits, the fluid in the fan clutch settles. It takes a bit for it to move around. If you dont hear it roar at startup then it usually is time to replace the fan clutch as the fluid has leaked or sheared down too thin. Clunk is abs self check, just like your taco did, and fjs,4runners and sequoias.

I believe the true startup roar is when the AC/defroaster is left on.

I guess I haven't heard the roar because I always turn off all the HVAC every time I park and I try to minimize the use of defrost and A/C to reduce fuel consumption.

Thx! I'm glad someone filled in the huge blank as to what the clunk is. I have 3 other vehicles with ABS, and no clunks from those. Is the ABS "self check" specific to Toyotas? Just curious. I've heard the clunk on mine, but as said it seems to only happen after first started and when initially moving. Then its fine.

My truck was built 4/20, shortly after all this virus stuff began. The only issue I intend to ask about when I bring it in for service is cold start idle. Mine seems to surge a bit as it warms up, and you can hear the rpms going up and down. It only seems to surge if it is below freezing outside. AC or defrost not on when it happens either. Oh yeah....it roars pretty loud for a few minutes too, but that's no doubt the fan making the noise. Goes away after a couple minutes after startup. I wonder if its the fan causing the surging as the oil in the fan warms up??

Your owners manual also fills in that blank.

-And everyone is suppose to automatically know this "clunk" noise being described on this forum is from the dead-on accurate description in the manual of "a sound may be heard" ?!?!? - yeah, OK......guess I should have realized "sounds and vibrations" are actually a clunk sound....thanks, how could I have missed that.....

I’m 3100 miles in with my ‘21. I absolutely love it. Yes I hear the clunk when I first hit 5 mph. No wandering or shaking on the highway. Every time my old 4Runner did that (which was more often than I cared for) I knew it was time for another alignment.

If I had to get picky, there is a stretch of I-65 just north of Nashville where my truck gets a bit bouncy. It’s not too bad though.

There is also the slightest high pitch (10-12kHz range) intermittent whine inside the cab. Most people wouldn’t even notice it. It’s faint but annoying.

Sorry to hear of your troubles, OP! Hope the dealer takes care of you quickly.

“Just after the vehicle begins to move”.

I guess you could’ve used the search feature on this website also. Lots of threads about it that use the word “clunk”.

It’s a vibration from the motor/exhaust vibration. At least in my truck, it was more of a sensation/resonance you can feel through the wheel. Not sure it was. Maybe motor mounts, exhaust, or a combination of the two.

With 30k miles on the odo now, it’s gone. I’ve also put the Dirty Deeds resonator on my stock exhaust setup which didn’t hurt - although I can’t say with certainty that was what fixed the vibration.

Hopefully dealership can fix some of the issues. The steering wheel clunk may be something loose. Not sure about the rear diff - speed specific seems odd - but I don’t know much about gears. One of the few things I’ve never messed with in any of my vehicles.

    Good luck!

The rear and wine is between 51 and 56 by the loudest at 54. I’m going to make an appointment to drop it off, I don’t have good luck with service advisors, seems like they always just say normal operation. The ones at Nissan anyway

Aside from the ABS "self check" this is the first truck I have ever owned that has not had any leaks , squeaks or rattles. I would buy another one in a heartbeat. OP, I hope that you get your issues resolved so you can fully enjoy your truck.

Oh...now that your arrogant behavior is being called out....so now you were just being funny...yeah right. I've been on other forums for many years and NEVER attack those asking honest questions. Prime example of why people hesitate to contribute or post anything on some of these forums. Learn how to treat others with a little respect...even if it is just the internet. You're not funny.
