My aftermarket on my F150 will kill it if I hit the brake before putting the key in it. I hope the aftermarket Viper one for ye olden DC acts the same. I'm going to wire the brake wire anyway. One of these days. Sheesh, I wish other shit would stop getting in the way of me getting the Viper installed. :D

Something is invigorating about walking out into the brisk morning to start the truck. We don’t worry about theft here in St. Bart Island.

I did a house renovation and addition last year and for the first time have a garage that I can park in... and it's heated.

Single car carport converted into a garage, and yeah I can barely walk thru it, it doesn’t house vehicles ever.

I have a single carport too but not allowed to store anything there other than cars. HOA, but keeps the neighborhood looking nice I suppose.

Beforehand, we had a garage that my 1998 4runner could almost fit in. Wife had to cut the wheel when pulling in to not hit the water heater and didn't leave room for the passenger to get out of the car.

Took one of my cv axles to work and started to disassemble to prepare for cleaning, re grease, and reboot. Most of the videos and a friend all have the inner joint with the tripod set up, that is supposed to slide right out of the cup. Well after I cut the inner boot and tried to slide the cup away- nogo. So I slowly wiped away grease near the end of the splines and found a intersting c clip. I was able to open it ever so slightly(it has a keeper that doesn’t allow you to just remove the entire clip) and slide off the inboard joint and cup. So instead of a tripod, it’s a 6 ball bearing dealyo set up. Different from what I’ve seen, but numbers on axel matches oem PNz.
I wiped out as much grease as I could, and then filled the cups with degreaser to soak overnight. Tomorrow I will finish cleaning and try to grease and reboot.
Thanks again Dan for your help answering questions!

It really wasn’t to bad disassembling them. It just took a little to figure out how to get them apart. Also the oem boots are super strong, I thought they were going to be thin and brittle, but rather the opposite. As long as everything goes smoothly I should be able to install next weekend maybe

Got distracted on Tundra and started the wife some sliders for Sequoia while I wait for weather to Monstaline my bumper. For those with 1st gen Sequoia, after i made them up i threw them against my 99 Taco and they are nearly exact same sizes. Anyone looking for options may want to consider trying 1st gen Taco sliders since so little exists.

Also got her some newerTaco wheels and ordered new 285 75 Duratrac's for the Tundra so she could have my near new 265 70's since doing the lift recently made them look small. Figured theyd go good with new Sliders.

Any recommendations on rebuilding oe cv axles? I thought about buying the CVJ red 'lift' inner boots but I'd be about $150 for two and then I'd still need grease and outer boots....which means I still have to buy full boot kits.

@empty_lord but but the spendy'r boots are red! lol. So if I have a little play in the axle so I need to replace anything else or just grease n boots? The paint is flaked off the outer joint metal cover cup or whatever it is, but that doesn't affect anything right?

So no way can I even attempt to compete with the knowledge Sir empty_lord brings to the table BUT I do think the High Angle Boots are worth the cost. Worse case you're out the extra cash (which we all spend on our trucks anyway). Best case you're not back in there wishing you had spent the extra cash.

We've seen it too many times where a lift changes the angle and we start spitting out the grease. We then change the clamps and the boots spilt.

Just my thoughts from my experience and many others on this forum...

The price is reasonable considering you get the grease and everything. Play is normal. As long as it wasn’t clicking in 4x4 your fine. Fresh grease and boots should be fine
May be climate, but high angle boots up here don’t last too long in my experience. The OEM boots on the tundra don’t have the fin rub issue like the tacomas do. And even my 01 tacoma I had 5 years on my oem reboots and no issues at all sitting at 2” of lift. Not saying high angle is a bad idea, but if you have no rub of the boots not really needed. The oem rubber just seems to be superior.

    Hey guys

Can I get a pic of how much room there is between to top of the swing box and the top of the bed? Or if there’s a gap between the backside of the box and the side of the bed? I’m curious, but doubtful, if I can install one with a hard cover due to the locking handle, it’s a trifold hard cover...

    upload_2020-12-16_15-49-21.jpg

I can also go measure how far from the tailgate this handle is but suspect the swing box will be deeper into the bed than the handle...

EDIT - the write up states it will not work with this cover manufacturer but it being for a 2nd Gen going on a 1st Gen I thought I’d ask for pics / measurements / thoughts

Mine is going to look a bit different because the access cab bed is not as deep as your double cab bed. The Swing Case fit better for Chris than it did for me. I'll be happy to snap some pictures though. Is there any way that handle can fold up out of the way or does it have to hang like that?

@abcinv an easier way might be for you to measure the distance between the floor of the bed and the bottom of your cover. Then I will measure how tall the Swing Case is from the floor of the bed. I know there is a small gap between the case and the side wall of my bed which I can also measure.
