Y’all seen these? All stainless, made in South Africa. I think they look badass. Wondered if some of you guys had them.

I had an RLD on the 3rd gen Tacoma I traded in for the Tundra I have now, It was a great shell/canopy. Cost a little more than a fully loaded Leer, but over all I was pretty impressed with it

Not for this truck, I'm going with a Fourwheel Campers project M on the Tundra. If I just needed a bomb proof shell I would get another RLD, it was very well engineered, mounted to the tracks that come from Toyota so install and removal is very easy.

Looked at these a few months back. Thee are RBI’s what I would go for if decided to get a topper.

One thing is, they are heavy. The photo of the Pro with the topper and camper is probably nearing around 400lbs. There’s not really much more payload left after a few passengers.

It is expensive. What sold me was a photo in their Instagram.
It showed a Hilux rolled over with this camper. The truck was pretty mangled but the canopy looked perfect and it kept the cab from being crushed and saved the occupants.

Do you mean RSI? I looked at RSI but would prefer their EVOc "commercial" version over the regular EVO version. And currently, the EVOc is only available in white. Just wouldn't look right. I've also read about some fitment issues with the RSIs, albeit on Jeeps (lol).

As far as the weight of the RLD, they're only about 200 lbs. If I'm not mistaken, fiberglass canopies weigh the same or more.

Same basic design but concealed hinges and different windows. Check out the RLD South Africa website and Instagram for photos and videos of the Gen3.

How much does a fully loaded Leer or ARE run? RLD is going to come in just under $4k.

Sorry, autocorrect. I meant the RLD. The RSI is similar but is in separate panels and needs to be disassembled. I like the RLD more, it looks more rigid.

200 lbs is a little heavy, especially high center gravity. Leaving 900lbs left. Maybe eventually someone makes a carbon fiber ~50lbs.

    Wow that is sturdy!

Although, wondering if it caused the rollover?

I'm hoping it'll be just the right amount of weight in the bed to make the truck handle better.

Looks like the fiberglass topper weigh a lot more than I realized--about the same as the stainless RLD (if not a bit more). So weight isn't really a factor for me, just the cost. They're quoting me $4k for the RLD, delivered.

Probably thinking the added weight and placement, as the weight is over the bed area and not lower. High center of gravity on the bed. But 200lbs is not much considering what the truck weighs.

Yeah 200 lbs is nothing. That’s like having a person in the bed.

I am interested in getting a South African made Canopy. RSI, and RLD are 2 that make to US size pickups. Anyone have tried the RLD longterm, how is water and dust proofing in your experience.

That RSI Looks great. I have ordered a RLD design instead, as they are able to make some customizations for me, with double gull wing doors on one side and half cavities behind the gullwing.
