    Hello folks,

I’m new to the forum, looking for some pointers on a bed rack or cross bar system.

I have a 19 Shortbed crewmax with an access bed cover . Stake pockets exposed.

I’m looking for a no drill strong (300lbs static with 600 load) low profile crossbar or rack that I can mount using my stake pockets for a roof top tent while leaving my bed cover on. Seems to be slim to no options out there, any pointers would be greatly appreciated. Best option I can find that barely meets the weight rating is the Dee Zee hex mounts but according to Dee Zees website they don’t fit my truck. I would think there would be enough of a demand to have more options. The bed pockets are 53x68” on center. I’m considering using bedracks ladder bar for the front and rear, just waiting for a reply from them on the weight rating and quick removal. Thank you

You may want to consider the Putco Venture Tec Rack which utilizes the stake pockets. The only possible issue is if the bed cover covers up part of the stake pockets like some do.

Thanks for the info guys. Both nice solutions but don't meet my height requirement. I need to be able to fit this in a Garage so I want it below the roof line. Putco makes a nice low profile rails system but not for Tundra's. I decided that I will remove the bed cover and go with a Decked System, Yakima Bedrock towers and HD bars. We will see how it all comes together. Based on my conversation with several manufacture, I suspect there will be more options for Tundra owners in the near future.

I want to use the truck for more camping and possibly overlanding so its a slow build right now while the weather is cold here in CO.

In a few weeks I am installing some lights, on board air, trigger remote power system and my bed add on's. Waiting to buy the tent, hopping they will go on sale and want to sell my lomax bed cover to free up some cash.

Found a slick phone mount from offroam that I highly recommend for anyone looking to keep their phone mounted on rough roads. Expensive but comparable and designed really well.

I'm in pretty much the same boat as you. I have 16' crew max with a BakFlip MX4 bed cover and want to install a bed rack and RTT and keep the bed cover on but still be able to park in the garage. Also want something that can somewhat be easily removed. After some digging I came across these two options for rails. These don't quite meet your desired load ratings but are close.

KB VooDoo Hi Rise crossbars use with Tonneau (uses Trucks Deck Rail System) - 200lbs Dynamic/500lbs static

On my truck I removed the deck rail system in order to install the bed cover so I'd likely need this version of the Hi Rise Crossbar kit. I know it says F150 but it will fit the tundra as well.

For Tent, I'll likely be getting the RoofNest Condor
    https://roofnest.com/product/condor/

With all these components installed it will keep me below the roof line of the truck cab which will A. reduce dragg and B. allow me to park in the garage with it all on. Hope this helps.

Sleeper - Thanks for the info, I almost went with the kb voodo option but saw a couple of videos that showed the finish peeling so that turned me off.

Nice RTT option I’m looking at the tuff stuff alpha it a little more affordable and should sleep the whole fam.

I just installed onboard ARB air and a 42 light bar from diode dynamics today coupled with the trigger six shooter controller. So far so good, she is coming together. Good luck with your build. These truck are amazing, I have been to some awesome remote locations with enough room for the entire fam. Looking to do more exploring when it warms up here in CO.

I’ve got the VooDoo mounts and the issue I have with them is that they wiggle side to side. The mounts attach to the bed rail and appear to sit on the bed sides but they actually don’t, there’s an 1/8th inch gap. Fill that gap and the wiggle disappears.

A limited issue that was solved years ago.

What height are you looking for in a rack?

The uprights are designed to rest on the bed sides. If you have a gap under them, there is an installation issue.

Call us or email us and we will help you figure it out. There should be no "wiggle" whatsoever.

Not sure if you ever made your decision but I went with the KB Voodoo Hi-rise bars and haven't had any issues. Honestly, I've tried to go away from them and get a full bed rack but my limited clearance (garage height) and items I want to carry I just can't find anything that better serves my needs. I haven't had any issues with the coating peeling or any mounting issues but I've only had them for about a year. XL RTT, mountain bike, Waterport, traction boards all mounted.
