Was allocated a 2021 Tundra Pro and waiting for arrival in mid January. I keep reading about the poor and underwhelming audio quality of the Entune JBL 12 speaker system. Wondering what the tundra community thinks about replacement versus enhancement of this system. I know that tech12volts or OEM audio has happy customers, but has anyone scrapped the whole system and installed fresh gear? What exact features will you lose in removing the Entune/JBL head unit?

I stopped by my local audio shop and they are pushing JL stealthbox, JL amp with DSP, and JL secondary amp for the sub. They told me I would need a knob to control the gain/sub/settings and use a laptop to adjust. The main reason I don't want to enhance the system is the hassle of needing a laptop to adjust band/EQ on the fly.

Just go aftermarket on everything and eliminate all the jbl crap. You’ll be much happier in the long run.

I concur with the above. Gut the whole damned thing. I did and am thrilled with the replacement system.

+1 on aftermarket. The OEM radios are horrible and only put out like 10 watts per channel.

My original plan was the Audio Control LC7i and aftermarket amps. I never even took it out of the box. Now I have an aftermarket head unit. Haven't installed everything else yet.

Ahhh and you have the JBL head unit. The non-JBL is probably quite different. I know in my 2020 non-JBL the volume control with that radio is horrible.

Have you heard the term polishing a turd?
As for what you lose - I believe nav turn prompts in your dash screen is the only thing you lose going to an aftermarket setup. What you gain greatly outweighs that IMO.

I had the JBL H/U in my Platinum and felt it too, was utter crap. Granted, it doesn't distort at high volumes.... but that's because it is INCAPABLE of high volumes.

Absolutely you can have it on max volume and still have a conversation. I’m also certain my door speakers have more bass than the 8” sub.

Look into a DSR1 and a new amp and speakers, and keep the headunit
