Any decent cell service? TMobile and Verizon both have launched unlimited 4G home internet pretty recently. I'm seeing 30-40mbps at my house on Verizon.

Dang. How's your cell coverage where you are at? Some cell providers have rural hotspot plans.
Hopefully you can get starlink, which should work really well from what i've seen.

Starting to remove some tile and baseboards to keep things moving along with the remodel. Kitchen is waiting for the drywaller to come back and sand. Hall bathroom is waiting on tile guy to come out which should be next week. Interrior doors will be delivered next Wednesday.

Check the build link in my signature.
cell service is almost non-existent. I’m in the hills and the trees and far enough off highway that there just aren’t great penetration on any of the carriers. Verizon does the best, but that’s 1-2 bars of 3G in a few rooms in the house. I put in a $1k cell booster system this spring hoping to get something better to try and look for a cell-based setup (TMo 5G is in the area), but it hasn’t made any noticeable improvement.

I have a thread I started on here about satellite options, but that’s not super promising either. Not really interested in dropping hundreds on equipment and locking into a 2-year contract for something like Hughes or ViaSat.

holding out some hope for StarLink.

Are those short walls curved or am I in the early stages of glaucoma?

Yeah, they are curved. There is about a 4" drop down into that room which is curved along with the wall.

That’s cool - I love unique features in houses. Somebody installed a catwalk in our house that overlooks our office. Different but cool.

A couple bulbs burnt out in our kitchen spotlights. I swapped them out today, along with the others, for LED daylight bulbs. What a difference. We'll never buy "warm white" lights again.

Tile removal is the worst. That dried thinset... The first time I ever did tile was at our old house. I thought I'd save $1800 (now I know that was an incredible quote) and I'd replace the tile in our kitchen myself. I used a Bosche Bulldog and got all of the tile up. Went to Home Depot and the "Expert" told me to rent one of their big floor buffing machines with a diamond scraper on it. I lugged it home, put plastic up and powered it up. It'd been a while since I used a buffer and it immediately slammed a hole in the wall. Then I really got it going - dust was going everywhere. The wind from the buffer blew my plastic down. I did about 10 feet, packed it up, cleaned myself off and drove it back to Home Depot. They told me, "Oh, we gave you the wrong one. It should have had a vacuum attachment on it."
I ended up buying a Dewalt grinder that had a shroud on it that hooked up to my shop vac. I crawled around on my hands and knees for two days but I got all of the thinset up. Our kitchen and dining room were in the living room for almost a month. I think we spent over $3000 total for me to save $1800. But, hey, I can tile now so I think I've saved us money by doing our own tiling.

Anyways, sorry for the rant. Your floor pics brought back memories.

“Improvement” is yet to be seen but I signed an offer for sale on the house today. Fingers crossed appraisal comes in high so I can get full asking + closing. Moving to Idaho, accepted a job with the state in IT / Cybersecurity. Now to rush to find a house and get under contract in the next day or two....don’t wanna be homeless!

I completely agree about the tile removal process. I bought two of the Dewalt diamond cup wheels to aid in the removal of the thinset. [IMG] The contractor chiseled out maybe 60% of the tile over the last 2 days. I started to go behind him and remove the thinset so at least the concrete would be smooth since I'm not sure how long it will be yet until the new tile will be going in (bathroom is the first priority). We've got maybe 1500sqft of tile being removed and then a little over 2000sqft going in. The tile guys (father/son) are supposed to start next week, just not sure which day yet. They will be doing the tub surround and bathroom floor, flooring in the whole house and kitchen backsplash after we get our cabinets installed. After that, we still need to demo and redo our master bathroom which we're hoping to start demo on in about 4 weeks from now. Interior doors were measured yesterday and should be delivered next Wednesday and installed the following day.

The dust from removing the tile is nuts. Even with plastic up it still gets on everything. Wouldn't be so bad, but working from home isn't fun right now. I get off early today about 1pm after our "virtual holiday party" and plan to go up to Harbor Freight. Thinking I'll just buy a bunch of their 72" x 80" moving blankets and cover the floor. They are only $6 each. The tile guys were going to remove the thinset anyways, I was just trying to speed up the process. Probably best to cover it up for now and let them tackle it.

I had to do a similar project with one of of jobs, it was 3000 sq.ft home, I rented 5 air scrubbers for the clients sake..worked out pretty well, and yes dust can be a pain in the ass! Sounds like you got this under control Paul..

My nightmare was only about 700sqft so I can only imagine trying to grind everything up with a 5 inch angle grinder. At the time I was looking, they didn't sell a separate shroud for the angle grinder and I had to buy the whole tool. If your are going to keep working on the floor and aren't using one of these https://www.amazon.com/DEWALT-DWE46...th+dust+collector+4+1/2&qid=1607705575&sr=8-4 on your grinder, I bet the dust is out of control. If you don't have one and get it, I recommend duct taping your shopvac hose to the attachment so it doesn't pop off.

I did see that attachment online, but didn't notice it while at Lowe's. I imagine that would help quite a bit.

It's a game changer when it comes to dust. I was at Lowes a few years ago and bought a Bosch shroud that was sitting in the clearance bin for a backup in case I somehow wreck the one I have (if it can happen, I'll do it). Worth every cent, especially if you ever decide to do a small tiling job later one.

So after the hurricane, the bonus area above the garage took the most damage and had to have a bunch of sheetrock work, paint, and flooring redone. Today we got about 98% of the painting done, but they'll be back to finish up a couple things. I'll prob start laying the floor down in the next week or so. I did it the first time with wood laminate. This time I'm using luxury vinyl laminate in a different and lighter color.20201212_132438.jpg

I bought one of these years ago for this and similar projects. The dust collection capabilities with a good vacuum are pretty amazing.
