I have a 2013 Tundra with 72K miles with a 6.5' bed and have a Hallmark Milner poptop camper on it. My gas mileage is like 12mpg. Is there anything I can do to improve that? I had hoped for more like 14mpg.

No there isn’t. Not unless you can magically put more energy into a gallon of gas.

You can eek out some MPG by using mild highway tires, in the stock size. May gain .5 to 1 more by installing DD exhaust. But any cost for those items and the little MPG they would offer would take a lifetime of driving to recoup the cost of the purchases.

Tundras do not get good MPG. Your MPG sounds right for hauling any real weight in the bed or mild towing.

The second rule about Tundra gas mileage... don't pass a gas station once you're under 1/2 a tank (especially with a 26-gallon tank).
    :crapstorm:

You don't mention tire size. If you're running oversized tires (and don't have an in-line speedometer calibration device installed and properly adjusted), you may not be getting a fully accurate reading on your MPG. Oversized tires cause your speedometer to show a lower speed than you are actually travelling, but also cause your odometer (including trip odometers) to show LOWER miles than you have actually travelled. The MPG computer (and your own math if you are relying on the odometers) will be off due to that discrepancy. For example, a 275/70R18 tire can be off by ~3% from the factory tires on an SR5 truck, which would make your actual MPG closer to 12.4 from what the computer was calculating. Not a lot, but that's something.

And, as others have said, the load and the lack of aerodynamics in a camper is also gonna smack that mpg down pretty quick.

Oh, and welcome from the wet side of WA.

Ha! I guess I won't talk about it! :) It has factory standard tire size but 10 ply BF Goodrich AT's. I keep it down to 65mph on the highway. My son has a 2011 Tundra with a FWC Hawk which is a bit lighter(my cry weight is about 1250lbs) and he gets 13.5 to 14mpg. I had a Tacoma before pulling a Chalet folding camper and it got 14.5 to 16mpg. The Tundra is so much more comfortable and I love its zip!

The best thing that ever happened to "gas mileage" is the US becoming oil independent. The price of retail gasoline is miniscule.

So rerun your calcs. And this time calculate MPGPD (miles per gallon per dollar). The Tundra shines brightly on MPGPD.

Welcome aboard sailor. We've been waiting for you.

I got a new 2021 SR5 4x4 . 672 miles on it. I got a high of 17.9 keeping tach below 2k. On and off throttle varying engine speed to help break in engine, 14-15 with a low of 12.
