    Hey guys,

I am part of a local tundra group and I wanted to share an event that we had this weekend.

The ATXTC (Austin Texas Tundra Crew) is a fairly new group started by James Beaver. We organize solely through Facebook and we have over 600 members (although, there are probably only about 50 very active members). As we were trying to get more participation and events, James reached out to a new Toyota dealership (Toyota of Cedar Park - TCP) to form a relationship. On their grand opening weekend, we gathered about 50 Tundras and ran a convoy to the dealership. Since then, TCP has been sponsoring and supporting our group. They also have very generously offered discounts to our group. We get 15% off all service and parts as well as 1% over dealer invoice on any new vehicle.

Here are a few of us lined up at the dealer from another event:

So for this weekend's event, James reached out to a member of the Dallas/Fort Worth Tundra group, Chris Granados. Chris has been doing car audio installations (and other electronics) for about 13 years. During that time, he thought that he could create an Automatic tailgate lock for the Tundra's that is much less expensive than some of the other main stream tail gate lock products. He started with his truck, and then his buddies wanted the lock, then the Dallas/Fort Worth Tundra group members wanted the lock, and now this has exploded and he has installed the lock on hundreds of Tundras.

Normally, he charges about $100 for the lock and the installation (which takes about 30 minutes). But, for this weekend, James asked Chris if he would come down to Austin and do a group buy and installation. So Chris offered this product for $60 a piece installed. When the word went out on our facebook page, dozens of people signed up, but that led to a problem.... where do we do the installations? Well, one call to TCP, and they gave up one of their service bays exclusively for our group! The only thing that they asked for in return was to do a convoy to the dealership. So we lined up at the HEB center in Cedar Park and drove about 10 miles around Cedar Park before ending up at TCP.

    We had about 25 trucks.
Here we are starting to arrive..

Here are some of the pics of the convoy....

I wish I could show the videos, but they are in the ATXTC facebook group. The marketing director of TCP made a video of us arriving at the dealership.

Here is a really cool story about the convoy....
As we were driving around Cedar Park, a guy saw our convoy and was wondering what it was all about. So he followed us to TCP. As it happens, he is in the market for a new work truck. So he test drove a new Tundra on the spot. After he was done with his test drive, he came over to our group to talk Tundras and I chatted with him for about 15 minutes. He is originally a Ford guy, but he is now seriously considering a Tundra. How awesome is that!?!

So this is the service bay that TCP let our group use:

Here is Chris installing the lock on James' truck:

Here is Chris installing the lock on Marc's truck. If this truck seems familiar, it was a SEMA truck from a number of years ago. I believe that has a 16" lift.

Here is a pic of the installed lock:

Here is a video of my lock working:

TCP also gave us half of the employee parking lot to use. So James also went all out and arranged to have lunch for everyone. One of the members brought a grill and we cooked up burgers for everyone (the red truck is James' :) ):

We also have a reoccurring get together at PotBelly's Sandwich shop in Cedar Park. One of the members of our group owns that shop and he has agreed to open the shop an hour early on Sunday's (10am) for us to gather. If you are ever in town, stop on by :)

    Thanks for looking.

Yup. We are still together. You can join us on the ATXTC Facebook group.

The next event is “taco Tuesday”. There is one down in south Austin on the 13th at rosas. There is also one in cedar park on the 20th at rosas. Both are at 6pm.

ATXTC stretches down into south Austin. There is also a huge San Antonio crew. Both groups use Facebook to organize.

Pretty cool, although I must say, if you saw a convoy of 50 Ram's heading to the dealer, wouldn't you think it was just a typical day?

hmm.... it is a private group. the admins must have changed the privacy settings. if you are on facebook, i can friend you and then invite you to the group.

although, with you being in san antonio, you should join the san antonio group :)

I used to be in the Austin group, I like to follow the for sale monthly posts. Also gone up to a couple of y'alls events over the years. Yes, I am in the SA page. Maybe the Admins cleaned up members not in the Austin area.
