Will installing new exhaust system with a resonator not have this same drone as stock exhaust? At 40-55mph theres just constant drone then levels out when i hit 70.

Replacing stock with aftermarket will produce far worse drone. Only a few aftermarket exhaust produce little to no drone. BA exhaust from dirty deeds industries and I believe Corsa.

I recently installed the Dirty Deeds Resonator on my stock system and it eliminated the drone. I highly recommend it, especially if you’re wanting to keep the stock sound.

If you add a tailpipe resonator to your stock system - the drone will be gone. Keith at BAMufflers makes a bolt on tailpipe resonator - just need to drill a 2 inch hole in the tailpipe (highly recommend) - or you can see if an exhaust shop will make one for you. The dimensions are 2 inch diameter and 26 inches long. All said and done - you may not save much going to an exhaust shop and it will be permanently welded in - whereas the BAMuffler version can unbolt.

I found the stock 'drone' and 'helicopter' sounds lessen over the first 2-3K miles. Have 55K and have been perfect for a while. No drone while cruising 60-80 mph (or higher ;))

Did it really? Mines a 2021 1500 miles on it. May hold off a bit and see if it lessons. Its sure annoying. Like im constantly wanting to hit 70 so itll stop

Do you have the single outlet OEM exhaust or the dual TRD exhaust. Only reason I ask is that "helicopter" is synonymous with the TRD duals. I had that system, and didn't like the helicopter sound, but that was different than the single outlet OEM system.

Stock TRD PRO True Dual and too bad you got rid of it. It mellows out and disappears in a couple thousand miles.

Yep, no drone, now has perfect balance and sound. Give it time, turn up the Stereo and beat on it! ;-) I can't remember exactly when, but it did mellow. I bought mine new with 70 miles on it, has been sublime for a long time now.

Though I have to say that now that I also have a 2020 Fort Bullitt with the active exhaust and basically open pipe option, the Tundra WHISPERS... lol

Does the OP have the single outlet or TRD duals?

I agree that it mellowed out, but never fully goes away. It was still enough to annoy me. But I'm glad you like yours

How long did you have it? I did find it irritating, but as I said, it is all gone now (as far as I can tell), and did bring back fond memories of my time in Army Helicopters ;-)

I have a whole thread on this.....

It came with the truck. I want to say that around 2K miles or so is when it stopped "mellowing" out for lack of a better term. It was definitely better than new, but still had some resonating chop to it at light throttle steady speeds. I spend a lot of time on the highway in the 55 to 65 mph range - where it is the most noticeable.

At around 6K miles, I added an H pipe and tailpipe resonators to the TRD, and it made it almost stock quiet, but you still had the performance of the true duals in the mid to high range.

Without reading my old threads, I want to say that at around 11 or 12 thousand miles, I took it off and sold it to another forum member.

Went back to single outlet OEM - found one with 100 miles for a steal on ebay.

    Then went the BAMuffler route.

Our exhausts remove the drone sound and HP, MPG and TQ. Plus we have a huge sale going on now... 25% off.

Ive also read that using 5w30 instead of 0w20 quiets it some. Dunno if any truth to that

Ummmm, I'd think about that.... Seems to me the exhaust tips are a bit 'removed' from the engine internals ;-)

Interesting. I do find it odd that TMC ran true duals, as crossovers are considered essential for balance, flow and scavenging. It's great to have options isn't it! But I hate throwing good money at the unnecessary. If and when I need to replace the stock exhaust, it will likely be a Borla or one of the other recommended options. Maybe I've gotten used to it as well.

If it doesn’t bother you, leave well enough alone. I actually thought the TRD sounded great under acceleration - the light throttle steady speed choppiness just bothered me. But we’re all different.

BTW - THANK YOU for your service!

The single outlet OEM system doesn’t have packing material, so it’s unlikely that the drone you’re hearing will lesson or go away. The tailpipe resonator will resolve that.

The TRD exhaust that Bulldog9 has and I used to have uses straight through packed mufflers. The packing material compresses as a result of heating and cooling cycles and the gases and condensation of the exhaust. So what Bulldog9 said was my experience too - the sound mellowed after a couple thousand miles. Just not enough for me.
But that won’t apply to you.

    Hope that clarifies for you.

I kept the resonator on my 07 CrewMAX when i took the DD exhaust off and put it back to stoct

My exhaust is stealth quiet. You only hear the engine.

it makes a huuuge difference versus without it

Does it still sound pretty good under heavy acceleration? I think the stock sounds decent just hate the damn drone at 40-60mph

There's no difference to the stock sound when accelerating. It still has that bit of grumble.

With the resonator there's a tiny bit of drone left at 55 mph. At 45 and 60+ it's quieter than a lexus
