2022 Tundra

No way in hell the next gen tundra will have a 15k tow rating. I’ll believe it when i see it, but i really don’t picture toyota making a 3/4 ton truck

 

Just tell us the important thing.... is there going to be an obscene amount of chrome inside the truck like the current ones have? Because whoever said "Let's put a shitload of chrome inside the Tundra" needs to be fired immediately.

 

I just bought a 2020 2500 HD last month. I got the crew cab LT. It came with add ons like running boards, Berliner, Z71 package so it had larger tires and rims.... Even with those ads ons, the payload listed in the door of the truck is 3,650 pounds. I got the 6.6 gas. I also looked at 4 or 5 diesel trucks in LTZ and High Country. All Crew Cabs and they were all 3,610 pounds and up with the Duramax.

The new HD's have exact same payload and towing wether it is gas or diesel now.

3,650/14,500 for payload and towing. This is bumper pull,, goes up a little for 5th wheel.

My Tundra left the factory with 1,169 pounds of payload. After Berliner, cover, and Running boards. I weighed it several times and with me in it the truck weighed 6,480 pounds. I only had 720 pounds for passenger, gear, and a travel trailer. If the travel trailer has 2 axles and small I could not tow it legally.....

That is the reason going to the 2500 HD. If Toyota can just meet in the middle and get around 2-2,300k of payload in this upcoming release, I will be back in Toyota in a couple years.

 

I agree 100%. It is useless to attempt to bring truth without sacrificing ones livelyhood to these forums.

 

Sound though process on it all. I really do wish that the Tundra had another 1000 pounds of payload, but I'm not sure I'm willing to give up my V8 for it. I haven't had a V8 since I was 16, and I do love it. Makes me when I hear it.

 

Personally I would have waited to see what the new Tundra brings before jumping to a GM.

 

exactly what Im doing, Im waiting to see what Toyota does, but if thats a no -go GMC AT4 6.2 V8 will likely be the next one for me.

Im not really sure I want a v6 hybrid turbo or whatever compared to a 6.2 v8, but Im not doing anything until I see what the actual truck is and can do and get to drive one.

I have to see how driving a full size truck with no throat coming out the back feels like, I dont like the sound of that but I need to get behind the wheel to see.

It would just be awesome if Toyota would offer v6 turbo deal but then keep the 5.7 refreshed or 6.2 as an option for the v8 guys, but looks like thats off the table

 

Part of what played into it is current market and resale. Market is all-time high and with short inventories, new models coming out, the value for used Tundra's are all-time high. I paid $46,800 for my Platinum, drove it for 2 years and 51k miles and dumped it for not much less than I paid.

I have watched values here lately, and as dealers start to get new model year inventory and factories get caught up from Covid, values are starting to drop again. I run my truck and trade in and cash price has come down $1,500 in the past 6 weeks. I got lucky and got it right at the peak. Trade-in value of the truck was $36k when I first started looking 6 months ago. Just getting as much out of a depreciable asset as possible and capitalizing on the times.

I know this is a Tundra site, and it is my favorite forum on the net. Love me some Toyota's all our other vehicles are Yotas. However, I hate to admit it...... I really really like the 2500HD with the 6.6 gas engine. Mine is a mid-range truck in LT, same or a little cheaper than a Platinum. Hate to say it but it has same and in some respect more features as my Platinum.

I do get why so many people fall for the features and all the bells and whistles with the other brands. I do not need all of that stuff, but it is nice to be a woosie and have a heated steering wheel.....

I have faith Toyota will get it right and come with an updated truck with more features for those that want it.....

 

just got back from driving the AT4, and I really like it. In Black, the best looking 1/2 ton on the market - IMO.

Highlights: the looks, the 6.2, the funky tailgate, the stiffer suspension, and especially the rear view mirror camera.

Dislikes: Price ($56k for a truck that stickers at $67K), 3.23 rear end, salesman says wireless Carplay gets frequent drops, seats not as plush as my 2018 platinum that I paid $46k when new.

The deal Breaker: 26 gallon fuel tank!

My wife and I go on long trips with our travel trailer and every extra fuel stop with an RV adds an extra 25-30 minutes to the trip between getting out, grabbing something to eat, restroom breaks for us and the dogs. With that 38 gallon in my Tundra, wife is able to put her mind to it and somehow able to manage 6 hours between stops. I don't know how she does it because she is usually asking to stop as soon as we leave the driveway.

 

That's a good looking truck. I'm a huge Toyota fan, but I was looking pretty hard at the Chevys and GMCs. It just seems like you have to spend a lot more money to get some of the standard quality of the Toyota and then you get a bunch of stupid stuff you don't want. Seemed really hard to find what I wanted for a comparable price. My neighbor just bought a Silverado Trail Boss and I have to admit, that truck doesn't suck.

 

Not to "one-up" ya' but I don't see anything offered to get me out of my 2010 SR5!

 

The RAV4 PHEV is super impressive

 

That's the unfortunate choice we have to make. Buy a domestic and get so many more features or buy a Tundra and get the reliability and resale but loose on creature comforts. Having a push button tailgate open to me is just a failure waiting fo happen and is pointless. My tailgate hand works just fine. Having a heated steering wheel is a nice feature.
I think the new Tundra will address many of the creature comforts we desire and a nice increase in power and payload.

 

Spending more money on a GM or any truck is not going to get you an increase in quality. Actually the opposite is true. Your just adding more things that can fail.

 

Sure wish Toyota would come up with a 2500 series truck with a supercharged 5.7l and a straight 6 diesel option.

 

This is why I have 2 trucks

Tundra for fun, comfort, style, off road, adventures, 4 doors, and fun

F250 7.3 for work, waking up the neighbors, pulling anything i want, fitting full sheets of plywood in the bed, yanking houses off the blocks, rolling soot, old truck smell, 3.5 gallon oil changes, and that nice solid sound whenever I shut the door or hood.

Between both these trucks i only paid 23,600. Think about that. Other than accessory stuff like alternators, water pumps, etc, I've had no issues, driven both trucks all across the country. I have the best of both worlds for a third of a new diesel, and best of all if one truck does give me problems, I can hop in the other one and go about my day till I get the parts to fix the broken truck.

 

I'd be happy with a 2500 with a refreshed 5.7 (no supercharger) and updated transmission. Option of a rear locker would be sweet, but I'm fine without it.

 

That's how I view most of the gizmos and bling on trucks...just adding more things that will fail.

 

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the Tundra only sold in Canada and the US? The market for 2500 series truck is strong.

 

If cylinder deactivation bothers you why not just turn it off ? Either by the gear selection or the tow/haul button .

 

I'm kind of in a halfway point on the MPG thing. I am with you in not wanting the cylinder deactivation stuff, but I am also not heartbroken about the Tundra MPGs. I researched and knew what to expect, so I braced for the hit and considered it a price worth paying for the reliability. That said, if there were a 1/2 truck with the same reliability at the time I was shopping and it had better economy, sure I'd be down. As you pointed out, in the 1/2 ton market that just doesn't exist. If I ever need to upsize to a 2500/3500, I'll be totally lost.

You know 2 people that had cylinder deactivation issues? Would you be willing to share any details on this via PM if you don't want to air it publicly? I'm curious about make, model, engine, and details on what happened, etc. Just idle curiosity, though.

 

AFM on my work 2017 Tahoe 5.3L at slightly less than 60K miles caused dropped lifter, which led to following downstream damage to cams, camshaft, and rest of top half of motor. New top half under warranty.

 

Something for Toyota to keep in mind for the next gen: it should be illegal to sell a vehicle that has a touch screen but does not have a heated steering wheel.

Sharp looking truck for sure!!! We have a handful of Denalli's with the 6.2 at work. They have been very very reliable and some with 220k plus miles on them with really no problems. Our Project Managers that drive them love them!

Just curious of how much daily driving you do? How important is fuel mileage?
