That’s the deck rail system. And no you don’t need it. Just pick the “ w/o deck rail option”

If I understand your question, you need to buy a tonneau cover that is compatible with the deck rails IF you have a deck rail system. If you don't have one, and don't plan to add one, you can buy a tonneau that uses traditional mounting clips rather than deck rail clips.

I mean I’m guessing the real American might be higher quality but who knows. Guess I would read the reviews. I have a gator roll up cover and it works for me, it’s not perfect but I roll it and unroll it multiple times a week. But I know there is definitely higher quality ones out there.

Is there a good retractable deck lid system that will work with the 2021 Tundra Platinum? I don't like the look of the fold up ones, while the retractable ones have nice clean lines and lock at what ever point you wish to lock it at(saw a video and can't find it again).

I went back and forth for months on which tonneau I was going go with. I quickly realized that tonneau covers are all about compromises between cost, easy of use, security, water resistance, and usability.

Eventually I decided on the RetraxPro MX. Locks in any position, fairly low profile, is not spring loaded, and has a fairly durable matte finish.

Haven’t received it yet but have messed with it and compared it to a couple other retractable covers and it was the best of the bunch.

You know what? This was the video I saw! Thank you very much. CarId has it as does Amazon and there isn't much of a price difference but I love Amazon's return policies. Thanks for this, much appreciated!
