Sometime in the last six days my spare was stolen off my 15 CM. Never been used.

Last weekend I purchased some TRD new takeoffs. Discount Tire put them on my truck and got my TPMS in the new tires to work with my truck. They checked the psi in my spare. Last time I new for sure I had the spare. Fast forward to last nite and I notice no spare. The thief even retracted the carrier back up so it was not noticeable.

Today I check with Toyota and they want $500 for a new one. I find some 08 steel set for $50. I go check them out and they have been had been stored in a shed since 09. Tires are bad and wheels are great. He drops price to $25 for the set.

I am now back at Discount Tire. Manager checks out wheels a pick s one out. Mounts a nice used tire/balanced and puts under my truck. Says "sorry for your loss and no charge". Thumbs up to Marecus at the Tulsa Hills Discount Tire. I have heard good things about DT in general. Can't imagine doing my tire business anywhere else. Suck a$$ day turned out not so bad, but I still hate thieves.

Had the spare off my Titan stolen at a boat launch. I have run a chain and padlock since. I will have to crawl under the truck to unlock if I need it, but it's better than not having it.

I have to do something like this to secure my tire. Probably a plastic covered steel cable.

So pretty much was another Tundra owner since you need the key in the tire iron set to lower it, unless one can get up in there and lower it another way.

Sucks man. I hope they broke an ankle running away with the tire.

I haven't had my spare down it a while, but is there a spring on the end of the cable that attaches to the thingy that pulls the spare up through the center hole of the spare rim? If so, and that spring isn't fully compressed, it might be possible to pull that thingy (I know) down far enough to flip it sideways allowing it to slip through the hole freeing the wheel and leaving the cable wound up. Might be accomplished with a pry bar.

Great another thing I'll have to lock on the truck and check to see if its still there. You'd never think they'd steal a spare.

Collect four and sell them as a winter set, in regions where that's done.

I'm in one of those winter regions where they have that snow stuff and I couldn't see someone going through all that trouble without getting caught. Not to mention they'd all have to be the same tire and people who buy snow sets usually buy a snow tire. It's doable but that guys gotta go through 4 trucks without getting caught. I'd check Craigslist that's where I found a set of rims and tires I had go missing. I'll lock my spare in the morning if it's still there....

You can buy a oem spare tire lock should probably get that soon incase it happens again. I'm actually surprised I haven't heard of this happening more especially with all the tailgate theft that goes on with trucks. Also reminds me of all the catalytic converter theft that happens in big cities some people will steal anything to make a buck. Don't loose faith there are good peeps out there to you just don't hear about them.

So there is an exposed spring on the end of the cable. I grabbed a pry bar and made a half-assed effort and gave up. I certainly wouldn't try to nick the spare that way.

Sorry to hear about the theft and glad you could recover your loss with an awesome deal.
I never thought about locking the spare but i am going to now. I wonder how that factory lock from Ebay works? I cant tell from the picture.

This is also a good time to let you guys know to lock your tailgates too with anti theft devices!
A few years back someone stole my GMC work truck tailgate.
