How does an engine go bad at 202k miles on these trucks?

I am thinking of going Ryzen team on my build also. Budget of course.

 

So I stopped off at a gas station on my way to work because I had to gooooo.

I go inside the gas station, and there's nobody in there except for cashiers, and food preppers. Sweet!

I go in the restroom, tinkle, and wash up. Come out of the restroom and I swear there was 20 people in side.

I mosey around everybody, and go to the fountain drink machine. I get a small Mtn Dew, I mosey around everyone again, and get two sandwiches out of the hot box. I thought "Ow holy shit. These are Hotter than normal."

I head up to the counter to pay, and there's one guy at the counter so I start the beginnings of the line. More people are filing in behind me.

The guy at the counter looks like a guy I went to high school with. Heavier set, dirty blond hair, 7 or 8 hairs on his chin/neck. I almost said "Hey nick" but decided against it.

"Nick" has a 6 pack of solo cups with 3 ping pong balls, a drink, and asks for 3 packs of eagle 20 light cigarettes, and something else that I couldn't really see.

Total rung up to $22.16. "Nick" said "Shit, I've only got $20 on my card. How much were the cigarettes?"

The cashier goes down the list of things on his screen, calling out the unit price of each. "Nick" said dismally "I guess I'll put the beer pong cups up, and buy them when I actually have my party instead of before."

His total now is $15.67. "Nick" asked for another pack of eagle 20's. His total now was $18.90-something. He was fine with this, and swiped his card.

Transaction completed. Carry on... I started to move towards the register but "nick" does something abnormal. He stands there, and talks to the cashier for another 2-3 minutes. I look at my watch, and think "its fine, these guys may be old high school buddies who haven't seen each other in a while." At least thats what it sounds like by the way their conversation is going.

Nick is talking about baby mommas, child support that he said "I ain't paying that shit. Yall got me fucked up."

I hear murmuring behind me from the line of people who are waiting on me while I'm waiting on him.

At the end of "Nick's" and cashiers conversation I hear "nick" say "I'll clock in at 10, so I can relieve you." The cashier said "You better be here. I got shit to do. I'm tryna bounce up outta this mofucka fer-real fer-real."

I'm thinking while I'm checking out "This is kinda funny, just listening to these two talk. Even if the topic is kinda shitty towards whoever the hell this fella knocked up."

I was expecting & waiting for the part where 4 hookers roll in with AK's and get the whole $100 out of the register and since the station had no cash everything you had was free. You walk out with hot sandwiches, a big gulp and a big ole smile and you see the hookers are having car trouble and 1 turns to you and says

"Can we get a lift"

You reply
"Cash Grass or Ass. Nobody rides free."

But I'm ok with your version, a nice peaceful evening

 

I like the way you think. I think I'd ask for cash, or grass. Then again if everything in the store was free a few extra packs of condoms wouldn't hurt.

 

Don't forget to grab a few cans of on the way out, gotta feed the hookers breakfast. That's how you make your safe escape.

You've done good work! Lots of it too. I know exactly what deer do to automobiles. I've seen em turn into steamy, red mist, and a few that I've hit at low speeds.

I can't find any pictures of the Malibu when I hit that deer, but if I ever find them I'll post them. Those pictures are from 2016-2017.

I'm very much aware of the risk I'm at. Based on your frame damge do you think that a proper bumper like @FirstGenVol's or @lsaami's up'n'coming Bumper would be worthwhile having for deer populated areas?

I realize that a steel bumper like theirs may help spread the Impact energy better, but you've laid hands on your frame. You've posted pictures. What are your thoughts?

I will find out more about the hits during normal person hours. What I know is the bill was $4,000+ for the repairs that were done. I don’t know enough to feel confident in advising you either way in this instance. I just knew you had some close call dash cam footage and thought of you while typing out that post.

Truck has always had a vibe ever since I purchased, but it's finally bothered me enough over 4 years to try and track it down.

Vibe is felt in steering wheel, floor, seats, etc. Not too bad from 20-60 (subtle, though still there), significantly worsens at 60+. Vibe also doesn't change when in 2wd or 4wd, which seems to contradict needle bearing issue from what I've read.

Driveline is tight and angles are good. New wheel bearings, uppers, lowers, CVs (new napas, though vibe never changed from CVJs/OEM) and steering rack bushings in my ownership. Vibe hasn't worsened with lift or 35s (tires balanced).

Does this amount of play in the driver side CV / diff indicate a bad needle bearing? Or does this look normal? I've ordered a solid bushing to be installed with my near gears already. Just looking for input on if this could possibly be the solution to my vibes or if I need to keep searching elsewhere.

Is it possible for first gen drivelines to get out of balance?

Yes that amount of play is normal. Grab the knuckle that ties the steering shaft to the rack and pinning and see I'd that moves alot line your cv jointm it should not do that

Pulled the trigger on this. If it lasts for 5 uses I'm happy. Cost savings from discount code paid for the one year replacement plan.


I realize its not big enough to fit the whole truck, and that is A-okay by me. I just need the front, or rear end in at any one given time.
