Hello, I’m new to this forum and would like your opinion. I am trading in my 2019 Tacoma for a 2021 tundra limited. I have a choice of one with the nightshade package or trd package. Which would you say is better? The nightshade is a better deal but I hear the trd suspension is good. I really like the wheels on the nightshade and not the trd. Can someone help me decide lol.

You didn't specify which TRD Package but I believe they're both primarily cosmetic. Go with the one that looks better to you, the one with the wheel size you prefer (if they're different) or the one with pieces that are harder to add or modify yourself.

Kind of funny I love the Nightshade look, but not the wheels. But it wasn't an option last year when I bought my Limited. I think the TRD package with 18" wheels may ride a little softer with more tire sidewall but? Think if I were in your position I'd go with the look I preferred, or if the ride quality plays a substantial role, test drive both trucks and see if one stands out.

I don't see one as better than the other, mostly cosmetic differences, however if usage will take you off road much the TRD package my be the better option. Good luck and after you make a decision please post a picture here to let us know.

It’s your money, so it’s up to you. Get the one that looks better to you (Nightshade) and if you want you can upgrade the suspension and give it a bit of lift/level at the same time. Good luck and as @Eaganite said, post pictures after you buy. Welcome and good luck!

    Welcome from NY.
Which TRD ? Off Road or Sport?
Off Road has chrome, Sport doesn't.

Thanks for the input. The trd off road. Just the package. I’m leaning more towards nightshade. I would like the trd package but not a fan of the chrome bumper and grill front. Too much chrome for me. I will probably just get a leveling kit. I will keep you guys posted.

I got the nightshade and LOVE it. The bridge stones ride so smooth compared to the TSS package they had on another Tundra.

Get the nightshade as you can always add the shocks you like later. take off TRD OR shocks can be found cheap. It costs more to color match a truck and get rid of the chrome vs adding some of the TRD OR parts like shocks and skid plates later.

If you can get a nightshade in the color you want, do that. All of these packages are mostly cosmetic. Like people said above, if you give it a few weeks, you can probably find the OR takeoff shocks for pretty cheap in the marketplace.

Personally, I went with TRD OR package though because the color I wanted wasn't offered for the nightshade package.

I'd say, the Nightshade. It is a unique package only for 2021. TRD models have been available since the beginning of time of the Tundra. :spending:

I went through the same issue recently. I had actually picked a white TRD 4x4 sport, but when I showed up to test drive it. It had a sold sign on it. Long story, I had selected a night shade truck as a back up. I ended up going with a Limited 4x4 Night Shade edition. I got a great deal. I figure if I want to put a lift that I could always change the suspension as well. Hell, I might even hit up JTaco on here and get me some TRD suspension stuff if I do not want to wait for a lift.

Ultimately, as stated above....it is your money, you go with what you want or what would fit your needs best. After all, you will be either smiling while driving down the road or m-fing yourself. But really, suspension and rims can always be changed....I see it happen everyday on other Tundra pages.

    Good luck!

I ended up going with the nightshade. Loved the 100 mile drive back but wish the stereo was a bit more powerful.

Congrats! I've read many complaints about the sound system's in the Tundra, do you have the JBL system? My Limited has the base Premium sound system and I have to say that after a fair amount of use, and the speaker drivers broke in. Then after finally figuring out how I wanted the sound settings setup, I think it sounds quite good. Makes me wonder if there's more people out there that like big subs with unnatural bass extension.

Please do post some good clear pictures of your new truck, looking forward to seeing it. Enjoy!

I really like the TRD Pro but the Nightshade just looks sick! You definitely can't go wrong with either one. Good luck.

Thank you, It does have the JBL speakers but comparing to my other cars doesn’t seem to get that loud or clean of a sound. I don’t like heavy bass but I want to be able to tell the difference. Hopefully breaks in. Now I need to find some side steps and mod it a bit to my taste.

Interesting. Mine came with the black out side steps and not with the parking sensors, which is what attracted me to the NS. I cannot stand that parking noise in my wife's highlander. Congratulations!

Some one on a YT video said that this grill was the same as the 1794? I am not sure because I never really paid that much attention to it. Maybe a 1794 member can chime in to confirm or deny?
