personal assessment and YouTube videos/Features list.

my top are mpg, tech advancements, payload. All trucks are generally reliable if you take care of them.

Based on your criteria then a F150 might be the right choice for you. If your also not planning on keeping the truck for a long period of time then the F150 may work.

All modern trucks are not equal in reliability regardless on how you take care of them. Design failures are not something a well maintained vehicle can avoid. A little history, the Toyota dealership I worked for (retired a few months ago) also owns a Ford dealership. There are far more major reliability issue with the F150 then the Tundra. The Ford techs referred to them as the Ecoboom.

I find the millennials (my generation) doesn’t care so much about noise coming from a vehicle. But the older generations can’t let it go.

I prefer a quiet truck, and welcome silence from it.

My boat really feels it at elevation. But, my truck stills pulls like it’s not behind it. I don’t see an appreciable difference even though I know it’s there. I’m talking 10,000 plus feet. When I drove my Tundra back to MN I thought for sure I would feel a noticeable difference but I didn’t.

If those are your priorities why aren't you getting a 3/4 ton diesel? Delete the thing and you will blow 24 mpg out of the water, I'd expect 30+ MPG with an eco tune (which still blows the 1/2 ton engine out of the water in power) or put it into a sport or tow tune and have an insane amount of power. They have similar tech to 1/2 tons, and have 2-3 times the payload.

Doesn't a delete kit void your warranty?

It will void the manufacturer warranty on the powertrain - but from my experience the failure point on diesels (with reasonable tunes, put out 600 HP and 1500 lb ft of course will break shit) is the emission stuff, I'd delete and sleep soundly not worrying about engine or transmission going. And depending on the dealers in the area some will do the delete themselves and give a dealer warranty.

Boy, I don't know what is going on in your Tundra from an MPG standpoint. We know Tundras drink their share of dead dinosaurs, but back at the end of September beginning of October, I took my Tundra for two weeks with a 3500 lbs travel trailer in tow. I left GA and went 5,656 miles through NM, Northern AZ, Southern UT and Several mountain passes above 10,000 feet in Colorado. Most of our trip was between 7 and 10k feet above sea level. I averaged 13.3 from the Trip. On the leg from Flagstaff to Page, AZ and then over to Zion, I averaged 16.7 with the trailer! That was hand calculated. Around town I average just under 14, so the Tow numbers sort of surprised me. Except, that is why I expected from a V8 with the 4.3 rear axle.

I like the way you think. A 6.2 iForce v8 would be awesome. Add a hybrid drive and a reliable 8-speed transmission for upper 20s mpg, and who wouldn’t be wooed over from domestic half tons?

For that matter, keep the 5.7, and just add a hybrid and the 8-speed. Why can’t v8s be hybrids???

Earlier this year, I spent a week driving a new Yukon XL Denali while working out of town. That 6.2/10spd combo is no joke. It’s very responsive and quick. I got 20mpg combined driving for the week to boot. I almost bought a Trail Boss for that drivetrain alone.

But then I drove my Tundra. It felt so much stronger and more solid. Old school. MPG be damned, I will pay less for this truck in the long run because it’s just going to keep going. That’s what sold me. The same almost-boring reliability of my 4Runner when I bought it as well. I just want it to work every time. It’s why I drive Toyotas and shoot Glocks.

That Yukon XL also buzzed me in the ass every time I changed lanes too slowly (it thought I was drifting). Man, that was annoying.

That’s great. Try driving only city driving that is at 4600-5400ft every day, and average speeds of 25-45 mph. Zero highway driving. Also try putting 34s and a 3inch lift.

All diesels drive like land boats. I’m good. I take my trucks up into Sierra’s for mountain biking.

Plus, I’d never delete a truck. It’s too difficult now to get the parts, illegal, voids warranty, and on top of all that Reno has a lot of emissions cops. No thanks.

I'm not gonna jump to any conclusions yet. I'll wait till it makes it's debut. If it looks like the last pic I saw...... I will be highly disappointed, especially the time it took to get to the 4th Gen only for it to look like a Got Damn Ford!!!!!! Paaaaalease! I'll drive my 08 till it rust away, which won't happen for a 100 years:D
