can someone tell me the difference between these two styles of lifts and which one will be the smoothest ride?

Hey Tim. Can I assume you want the 3" lift right?

I'm more interested in ride comfortability than height.

Depends on what you plan to do with your truck. BDS is a bracket lift and King/Fox/ADS is a coilover with no bracket.
Bracket lift will allow you to lift it higher than 3 inches while the CO lift is maxed at about 3 inches. Coilover setup will perform better off-road but there is more to it than just throwing it on there for a smoother ride. There is spring rate and valving to consider. It comes down to: How do you plan to use your truck?

    These lifts really aren't comparable.

BDS has a 3" spacer lift, 4.5" drop bracket lift with spacers above coilovers, 4.5" drop bracket lift with replacement coilovers, 7" drop bracket lift with spacers above coilovers and 7" drop bracket lift with replacement coilovers
King has a 0-3" lift via coilovers

I have their 3/2 level kit on right now which is ok for the most part, but there's a stretch of highway that I use daily that is absolutely dreadful.

Mostly road driven, but I try to take my sons dirt biking on the weekends in the summer and the occasional hard to access fishing spot.

    Spacer lift?

The concerte hi way thing is because of the rear leaf springs. Not much can completely fix that.
