Gauging Interest for a Possible 17" FN Wheels GB

Nice looking wheels, but still like the 5-star the best

I considered 18" wheels based on availability, but I run 37s and the tire selection is pretty limited for 18" wheels. I run 37s MT Baja ATZs P3s and want to stick to that tire, just with a smaller wheel.

 

The 5 stars are just that.



I've had both FN and SCS wheels, multiple sets of both actually. My unbiased comparison being that the 5 Star borrows more styling cues from the Regamaster Evo or Wedsport 5 spoke, actually I believe the Weds was their inspiration for the style. Whereas the F5 is borrowing more from the Work Meister. Either way both pull from very old 5 spoke styles.

Dish is a challenge with the Tundras typical offsets. FN primarily makes wheels that will allow you to run 35s with minimal work, so again putting a dish on it would change the amount of cutting you need to do.

Back to SCS, a few perks here with the FNs, theyre cheaper . Also, the main reason for this thread, I have reached out to both FN and SCS about 17s for the Tundra. The 17" size has gone from fledgling to quite popular, tons of manufacturers are now offering 17s for our trucks.

FN and SCS both happen to be, in my opinion, at the top of their games. They offer affordable, strong, and light weight wheels. A combo thats hard to find anywhere else.

Having said that, SCS has turned down my request for a 17" run multiple times. Theyre currently talking about another 18" option, but even in discussion for that they have turned down any requests for 17s.

So please decide what's best for you, but if youre like me and having a bit more cushion and a bit more meat is your thing, then the FNs are going to be just about the best you can get for the money in a 17" wheel.

Well, 37s are in my plans too. These specifically will look thick with 37s, as these are just 35s here. The BFDs and Six Shooter are very similar too.

No updates right now. Last update was that Dustin was working with securing a factory to get these wheels made. Current estimated ETA until the wheels are available is still late Q1 to Q2 of 2021.

Anyone using these with a 295/70 or 285/70 AT? I’ve got dobinson coilovers coming and looking at a set of these wheels. Not a fan of spacers, and wondering if precautions need to be taken (mud flap removal, plastics bent). Other option is to just run the OEM wheels and the new tires.

 

Which Dobinsons coil did you do? I have the 2.25” and think I’d be fine with almost no mods (remove front flap) with 285. Think the 295 will require some front fender shaping/modding too. The stock skid except the TRD pro will need hammer modification.

 

I’ve got the 2.5 stock load coming and already have the RCI skid. Spending a lot of time trying to figure out a tire and wheel combo and what minimal alterations are needed.

Your posts are what swayed me to go with the Dobinsons set up!

I agree lol. When I see a sale on vector 5 I’m buying... unless these become available soon. These would be lighter by a few pounds I believe due to flow forming.

 

Naw man, those are 30 lbs. I'd rather have KM717's at 24.6 lbs instead. But these FNs are 21 lbs or less and will be a lot more exclusive. I'll probably wave at anyone else who is running them, lol.

Black Friday is your day then, Icon does 20% then. So, in that case youll be able to get the FNs before then, and yes the Vector 5 is a ~28lb wheel. Should be about 6lbs heavier than the FNs, but dont hold me to that yet, just an estimate. FWIW the 18" BFD is 18x9, flow formed and weighs 23lbs.

Same. I'm in for the 6-shooters in Gunmetal or which ever flavor of gray they come in. Hell, I'll even rock some matte blacks if I have to.

Question, when do you think you might know if there will be both wheel options or just the 6-shooters, color options etc.?

 

Last I heard from Dustin, there would be both choices.

 

17's are where it's at and looks like a nice offset too, as I will be trying to stuff 35's.

I am interested in 6 of the six shooters, but cannot commit 100%. My truck has not arrived from the factory yet, and I typically don't buy mods before owning the vehicle they go on, haha. Hopefully the timing works out.

I could use this groups expertise on something.

My Truck:
2012 with BDS 7inch lift
Coachbuilder Steering kit
Icon 2.5 coilovers with remote res... currently they are adjusted down to about a 4 inch lift due to sag in rear (heavy, modified truck)
I am about to put on new rear leafs (custom Alcans to get back to true 7" and will be able to crank the front coilovers to get 2-3 inches of lift back in the front.

I have been running 37s on 20 x 9 +1 with no issues.
yesterday I tested a 17 x 8.5 +15 with 37s and the tire is terribly close to the end link (pics attached)

Do you think when I crank the coilovers adn get the lift increased 2-3 inches in the front if it would have better clearance of the end link?

I am worried that the FN wheels with 17 x 8.5 with +18 or 25mm offset won't work

Any thoughts? I just emailed David at Ekstrom for his opinion but wanted some other feedback as well.

 

apologies if I missed this earlier, but do you know what the offset option(s) will be? I just figured out I can't clear a +15 or greater with my lift and suspension and if these are +18 or +25 I'm going to have to bow out

 

I dont know for certain, but they will likely be somewhere in that area, I believe +25.

You could consider a 1" spacer from BORA, thatd make them a 0 offset, assuming they are +25s.
