I use the NH oil mentioned earlier. I have it sprayed by a local guy. I do it every year but that's probably overkill because the previous years coating is still on, but I consider it cheap insurance.

 

Has anyone used a rust converter or preventative that handles high heat? I have some very rusted exhaust clamps...

 

Any on Long Island?

 

I too got the nh oil done by a friend who does it as a side business. After a winter everything still looks new, other than the coating on the frame. It was recommended that I drive on dirt roads after the coating to help it stick, and avoid th e underside wash part of the car wash. May only have to do if every 3rd year or so.

 

I got a case of Fluid Film last year with the intention of doing both my Tundra and the wife's 4Runner. Didn't get around to it ... maybe next year LOL. I really wanted to do it right and get the undercarriages cleaned up before I apply it but never found the time. A lift and/or pit would sure be nice.

The 'tards who run MDOT here are in love with mag chloride and dump that shit all over the roads through Winter; it's awful stuff.

 

I am located in WI and flew to Texas for my Tundra. I had a local company (Ziebart) undercoat my truck. I know a lot of people hate on Ziebart but if you start with a clean truck I think it's a great investment. I have had the truck in the snow belt for 3 years and am impressed with their product. The way they set it up is you pay big-time ($600) for the first coating then $50 per year after. If you get the service performed every year they will guarantee it won't rust for life. I missed one years service due to salt being put down before I could get it in. This summer I did a lot of maintenance under the truck and noticed flaking on the coating they applied. There was ABSOLUTELY no rust under it. My truck did get it's yearly service preformed this year and it's satisfying to see everything underneath covered. From my experience (personal not Youtube) they are a great company with a great product. I will continue to go every year for their touchups. Also they inject a fluid film on the inside of the doors, rockers, fenders, good, tailgate, ect. Good luck with whatever you choose.

 

Ziebart might look ok at first but eventually it will crack and trap salt/sand and promote rust in the long run.

Zpman, that's why I said in my experience. I went through two salty winters on one coat. I was happy with what I saw under the truck. Even the areas that were flaked away. Time will tell if it eats my truck or not. Either way I will keep the group updated. Thanks for the video.
