This will probably never happen, but wouldn't it be awesome to get a few shock manufacturers and a couple trucks together for a performance competition?

High end, mid-level, and budget grade shocks. To test all these shocks, on the same terrain, and using the same truck for each performance level.

With so many shock companies coming out with new stuff, hard to keep up...or just take their word for it.

ToyTec just came out with the RR shocks, and I think they are here to play...hard.

Eibach has some new CO shocks...

What do you guys think? Maybe get a few vendors would be up for it.

    None, yet....
    This is a great idea!

Some companies already do this. I know that KING, Radflo, Bilstein, ADS (i think), and maybe a couple others go out to just outside of Barstow, CA and do basically free tuning. They are out there at least once a month and they will revavle their corresponding shocks to how you need, but you have to do the work of R&R. All you pay for is the parts used.

A whole bunch of the serious pre-runner guys are always out there and the ultra4, King of the hammers type of rigs go out there. They have some washboard sections and a few spots with decent chop they test at. You'll see videos from time to time on facebook of rigs getting tuned and then hitting those sections.

I'll volunteer my truck. But whatever they put on my truck, it's staying on my truck. :quickdraw:

Careful, you might be the truck with Bilstein 5100 testing. Lol.

Very awesome concept but it will be hard for a vendor to think that this will be helpful to them. Too much risk involved. Someone has to loose right.

I don't think any manufacturer would be too hurt by this. After all, there are facts and then there are alternative facts....

That's a great idea TJ. It would be interesting how the budget / mid tier shocks would do against your big name shocks. Thumbs up

I think it could be possible. Hell, TFL trucks get $70-80k dollar trucks, tests the hell out of them.

I would be in for a day of free R&R help if we could get some vendors in on this.

What do you think @ToyTec Lifts ? I'm willing to bet after someone tries out the your new RR shocks and COs, they are going to pony up and just buy them.

Couple issues from a manufacturers point of view:

    1. I don't think you can control the test environment.
    2. Suspension is very subjective. What I like may not be what you like.

    1) driving the same route work?

    2) so very true.

Awesome concept for sure!! But just like what @Ryan at Eibach said, it is hard to control the test environment to get an accurate test for a side by side comparison.

I don't care what it takes or costs, but @BlueFalconActual needs a site vacation for posting that picture.

Maybe I am missing something, but if we have all the different shocks at one location (let's just say at your shop), do several installations, test with the same vehicle over the same terrain, doesn't that alleviate the accurate side by side comparison issues?

We do that every trip we go on and the same people always show up. We all still sit around the campfire drinking and arguing what the best setup is. haha
Another testing trip next weekend in Anza.
This will happen in Sedona at the end of April too. -Tundras to Sedona Meet

With one setup you could hit a rock wrong with a big bounce and think damn this suspension sucks and with the others you go around the big rock.
