Anyone here running a Google Pixel phone? Looking at upgrading my old Moto Z3 and can't convince myself to pay a thousand bucks for the new Motorola Edge+

Right now Verizon has a sale on the Pixel 5...wondering what y'all's experience is with Google's smartphone.

I'm convinced I want the Pixel 5 or the Edge+, I don't need anyone trying to get me to switch to iPhone or Samsung or any other phone.

The Pixel line is the only Android series that I’ll run. I just jumped back to an iPhone from a Pixel 3 XL, but that’s just because I tend to bounce every year or so. Loved my 3 XL. Heard the 4 kinda sucked. 5 seems solid from what little I’ve read about it.

I have had my Pixel 3XL for 2+ years now and love it. My wife is running the same phone. One son has a 4 too and he loves it.

I'm off contract but can't bring myself to get a new phone for an extra $30 a month, when this one is perfectly fine and has an awesome camera and battery life.

They have had some charging port and battery issues in the past. My wife got hers warrantied with no issues or problem, super easy process from Google Customer Service.

I will be looking at another Google when the time is right

Before this, I had a Google Nexus 5. Again, no major issues and the one time something happened to the camera, they swapped it out for me without hesitation and it was out of the warranty period but they still did it.

I still have a Pixel2 that runs fine after 3(?) years. Don't remember exactly when I got it, but haven't had any issues with it.

Following. I was thinking of getting a Pixel 4A but I'm going to try to nurse a little more life out of my 3 year old Samsung before dropping $500 on a new phone.

I love my Motorola phone, but I've also heard good things about the Pixel. Some agree with you and say it's the only android they'll have. The 5 supposedly is the best of the 3 and 4 put together.

Yeah $20 bucks a month extra for the Pixel is much more appealing than $41 a month for the Edge+ . Thanks for the info

I used to be a Motorola guy until Lenovo got their hands on them. Google bought them and made pretty good handsets with the Moto X (and it’s variants) and Nexus 6. I didn’t like what Lenovo did with the software after the acquisition. My pet peeve was slow updates and upgrades, along with lack of long term support.

Looking at the specs, it is the same size as my current phone which I'm okay with. I don't need the XL if it comes out...might just pull the trigger on it. The sale price Verizon has is only good til Sunday

Were you looking at the 4a or 5?
When i looked that the tow i dont remember seeing much difference. I believe the main difference is going to be software related.

Another big plus on the pixels, is that starting next year, google is changing it up so that the photos you upload automatically to Google Photos (its awesome to have this) start to count towards your 15gb free Google Drive account.........Except for Pixel users, photos do not count towards your 15gb :muscleflexing:. I've got 13+years of cell phone pictures on there for free!

I have a Pixel 4A (came from an XPeria XZ that I ran for ~4 years) and I love it. I plan on keeping this phone for about 4 years and so far it has met & exceeded all expectations. I recommend it to any of my friends looking for a switch to or new Android phone.

It's hard to really justify going to a more expensive phone when this phone is so capable at $350.

EDIT: I'd say my only criticism I can find is no wireless charging. It's not really surprising that at a $350 price point it doesn't include that, but I wish they'd given the option (or included it on the 4A 5G) to spend a bit extra and get it... would totally have justified a center console wireless charging pad mod :spending:

    Ha...I said mine was a 3XL, when in fact it's a 2XL. And our sons must be a 3. I was a generation off

    And it still runs great.

    I had a Pixel 2, upgraded to a 4a. Wife has a 3a and my daughter has 1.

They're solid phones, we've been lucky and haven't had any issues. After 3 years the only thing wrong with my 2 was the battery losing capacity.

Only advice I'll give is look at buying directly from Google. They offer 0% for 2 years if you want that and device protection for a one time fee instead of monthly.

I have had the Pixel 2 XL for 3 years and just upgraded to the Pixel 5. My wife and son also have Pixels, and neither of us ever had issues. The benefits include just seamless sync with all Google devices and programs/apps. I can be logged in on my phone and switch over to the PC or tablet and continue right where I left off - browser history, photos, maps, etc. Also, when you save photos in Google's cloud you get higher quality upload for free, where others would have to either pay or take the lower (but still good) quality pictures.
The Pixel cameras are also top notch, and I need a good camera for work to capture detailed images of product defects etc. and it works great for that.
Pixel's night shot camera is unbelievable. You can take a picture in the middle of the night outside and it will look like daylight.

Bought the 3a earlier this year for $325 new on Amazon. I can't bring myself to pay much more for a phone so that was a good deal.

It's a good phone. Good battery, decent camera. I think pixels are pretty solid phones.

I have a Pixel 3 phone as a work phone. It does everything I need in a phone! May I suggest checking BACKMARKET.COM
Great prices on refurbished phones w/ 12 month warranty. That's were I got my last phone. Also unless you need it tomorrow,
just use regular shipping as I got my phone in 4 days.

ALSO: Example for a Google Pixel 3 64G that normally sells for $800.00 (unlocked) You can choose from "Fair"-$178, "Good"-$242, "Very Good"-$202, "Mint"-$205

In the example above, I would get the "Mint" for $205.

How's the battery life? My only concern with those is going to a phone with a smaller battery than my current phone. However, when this phone was new, I could go like 4 days between charges and I suspect not running a bunch of bloatware would help.

I have yet to finish a day with less than 60% charge. Usually closer to 80%.

As long as you charge it every night, I think you'd be pretty hard pressed to run it out in a regular day... unless you're GAMIN' :playball:

    Not enough.

I'm still running the OG first Pixel XL. About 4 months ago I had to use my insurance to get a new one because the battery had degraded finally. But I bought it when they first came out and it's STILL a solid phone for how old it is. I have zero intention on getting a newer phone anytime soon. Still takes pretty decent photos, still plenty fast. I honestly love it. I prefer it over my girlfriend's Note 10+

I had the Pixel 2 XL for 2 years and bought the Pixel 4 XL a year ago. No issues with either phone. Camera is great and all I can say is the phone just works to what I need. I don't need to spend $1,300 on a phone to be trendy.

Looking at the 5, and have heard the news about Google photos being capped unless you are a pixel owner. Definitely helping it's case for me buying one.

The 5 has wireless charging which is why I'm looking at it over the 4 or 4a

    Wow. Those pictures are amazing...

I'll be honest the storage for Google One is so cheap it's pretty much a non issue considering most places charge for storage already. I pay something like $30/year for 200GB that all 3 of us can use.

I did the same last year, $30 plan for saving videos and documents and non Pixel photos when we swap or Upgrade a pc etc

For everyone else though, the Google Pixel photo storage and Google Drive are not the same.

Google Photos is free storage for Pixel users for X amount of years. If you back them up to Google Drive, they count against storage there.

I had an original Pixel XL for 3 years, recently upgraded to the Pixel 4 XL. Excellent all around phones. I really miss the fingerprint reader from the original Pixel. I may look into the 5 XL or 6 if that has better specs. The regular 5 is basically the 4 with a fingerprint reader.

Unless you're going to buy an iPhone, IMO there is no Android phone to buy other than a Pixel. You can't go wrong with any of them. I would recommend one with a fingerprint reader though because the face unlock on my 4XL doesn't work when you're wearing a mask.

My other hesitation with leaving Samsung is I'm addicted to Swype. It's not as good on my current phone as it was on my last two but it's still faster for me than traditional typing on the phone keyboard.

I have to carry around a Samsung phone (S8 I think) for work and I'll tell you right now, I believe the swipe texting feature on my Motorola (it uses a google keyboard) is far superior to the Swype on the Samsung. I have way less problems and errors using it and the "predictions" are spot on most of the time based off my history.
