Not feeling it, that's an ugly cap on both fronts.

First post! Was just at a local (Vancouver, BC) dealer looking for cap (and other) options for my yet-to-arrive 2021 CrewMax TRD Off Road Premium. Figured with the 10-15 week lead time most are quoting, I'd better get moving.

Stopped in and looked over a Smartcap Evo. Boy, they are nice. Fit and finish is exceptional. The side windoors are silky smooth and HUGE, though no way to screen the openers; the vent looks like it might work. Roof rails are nicely integrated. Looked a bit blocky, but again, really well made. Dealer said they're dropping the price to $4999CAD which makes it just a few hundred more than a similarly equipped ARE CX-HD, or Leer, for that matter.

HOWEVER: The one glaring issue I can see will be condensation. All that steel will be a dripping nightmare for half the year. They do not, to my understanding, offer any insulation options.

Result: I'm going with the good old lined ARE CX with windoors, tracks, and a front slider - $4k taxes in.

After a long wait, I had this installed last week. This thing is built well. I am impressed with the quality, too.

No leaks or anything? The back looks like it’s too far forward to make a good seal.

It does not fluch out and overlap the tailgate like fiberglass tops. There is a seal there. Haven't had enough rain to see how everything seals, but i have never seen a topper / bed water tight.

Looks nice. I know what you mean. My ARE leaked at the front. I had to put some butyl tape on the front corners to fix it. You can’t see it, but it’s a pain to remove it when I want to take the cap off for anything.

do these have some sort of window in the front to access the bed from the cab? it’d be nice if they had both a slide and pop in

Just put mine on my 2010 Crewmax. I really like it. It sits flush with my tailgate compared to newer Tundras. It has little sliding windows in the front and on both sides as well.

Can you show any pics/video of how the front slide works? Wonder if this'd be worth it with rear sliding windows on tundra.

Kind of hard to jump on there and get a video, but here is a picture of the front slide. Just a finger pinch and slide right. Is probably 10 x 12 or 8 x 10 window

I sent two web requests asking for the weight of the Tundra, short bed unit, without any options. I never heard back. I then called them and was told it weighs 246 pounds without any options in the short bed configuration. I’m not sure how this compares to a fiberglass unit, but it seems heavy. You better have help if you want to remove it! It is a very nice unit but I think I’ll stay with my Undercover tonneau cover.

I don't like how it doesn't sit flush at the tailgate on the 3rd Gens.
