    Well everyone, as much as I hate to say this, I am considering selling my Tundra. I absolutely love the truck but last weekend I signed the contract to start building my first house. Just thinking the payment may be a bit steep on the Tundra. I can afford both however I would like to be comfortable so to speak and I'm sure there are things I will be doing to the house. Just wanted to get input on a potential asking price or if anyone knows of someone interested. Again, not 100% sure, just want to get a feel for things.

    Being it's a 2017, you're going to take a good hit.
    I too am looking at building a new house in the near future. That being said, my truck is almost 3 years old now (bought it brand new) but I've been paying ahead on it so the overall balance is lower.

    Don't let the truck own you. You own the truck. Same for the house...im not going to sit here and tell you how to spend your money, but look at what you definitely need vs want and find a middle ground. There's a house I looked at (model) that I wanted just for the mere fact of the size of the kitchen (we enjoy entertaining) but the extra costs associated for that model isn't/wasn't worth it.

    i'd pull off all your upgrades and sell them alone. You'll get more money for a stock truck + the parts sold on the marketplace here than you'll get for the truck with your parts on it.

    I understand where you're coming from. We have already picked a home and upgrades while staying within our budget. I would hate to sell the truck and I am not sure that I will, just thinking something with a lower payment may be better at least for the first couple years.

    man what a bummer. I agree-sell extras separate, they don't have same value to next owner and dealerships could careless. they try and use that against you. good luck! I would interested in wheels and tires if you want to go back to stock when selling. just PM a total.

    Not sure how you structured the contract with the builder but Steve is right, I went pretty far over budget with my house I just built. There are so many variables when it comes to building a home. If you want any advice feel free to PM me.

    As far as the truck, I bought mine about a year before I decided to build. During that year I made triple payments on it which in return pushed my next payment due date out about 2 years. I'm glad I did this because the house was sucking all my money and my account needed a break so I didn't make a payment on the truck for 9 months. The whole time I was planning and building. I just recently made another double payment trying to get back in the swing of things. Building a house is expensive but then again I don't know how you structured the contract. If you think you can make it work with both that is what I would try because like Sean said, it being so new your going to take a little more of a hit because people will want to spend just a little more and get a brand new one.

    Don't be too hasty on selling. If you can swing it, keep the truck. I did the same thing when I bought my house. I got so excited about the house I figured I didn't need so many toys and sold them off. Within 3 years, I realized I needed my toys and had to re-buy the same crap I sold off for way more than I sold them for. Pretty much ended up wasting money rather than saving.

    You're going to lose money on selling/trade in.

    I know the wife and I are going to buy/build a house in the next couple of years so right now I'm hustling to pay off the truck (it's almost three years old and just now starting to snowball on the payments) according to my calculations, I'll have it paid off free and clear in about a year (a year earlier than if I had stuck with the payments) that way we can save up and put down a deposit on whatever we decide to do.

    Your budget is yours alone, but it's all about needs vs wants

    Definitely go back to stock and maybe buy an older tundra and put them mods on again LOL

    You drive the truck, it doesn't drive you. There is most definitely significant value in reduced stress. I learned a long time ago - other than wife, kids, and living environment - everything else is fluff. It can be bought and sold as life's situations dictate.

    Don't know the value of your truck with the goodies - but I know on other vehicles it seemed to be geographical value of the vehicle, and then anywhere from 10 - 50% (at best) of the costs of the add-ons. I also know it then takes someone to like exactly what you liked, to have faith in their application - and be willing to buy it already done versus them being the catalyst in having the work done.

    If you do decide to sell, probably some good advice to de-mod, sell stock, then sell goodies on the side.

    A little of this and a little of that.
    Trey, a lot of advice from some people who have gone through what you are about to embark on. If I were you I would keep the truck. However I do not know you're budget so I can't say for sure. In my opinion if a few hundred dollars is the difference of having to get rid of a truck so I could own a house, I wouldn't be buying the house at that point in time. That to me is cutting the budget too close. But that's my lousy opinion, because the way you and I do budgeting is totally different. One thing I think we all agree on is definitely take off all your mods and sell them separately. You'll get more money that way. Here's to hoping you can do both :thumbsup:

    The more I think about it the less I want to sell the truck. I can afford to keep it and I had just thought a lesser payment would be nice. However, a lesser payment on a vehicle I don't enjoy would be even worse. I think I will hang on to it and if things get tight I will reevaluate at that point. I appreciate the input, Id say it pointed me in the right direction!

    If you hang tight, you may have enough equity in the truck to refinance if things get tight. May even be able to do a HELOC or something like that. Likely less expensive than loss on trade in plus TTL on new vehicle and depreciation off the lot on that.

    As someone who just sold their dream truck in an effort to be 'smart' and have a lesser payment, who has now sold the 'smart' truck and back to buying another full sized truck, don't f*ck with it man.

    I feel you in this market in Colorado Springs. It is crazy. You either get into a bidding war going up or a house is sold before you can even get an offer in.
    Most people now have resorted to building homes due to this issue, which is more expensive per square foot.

    Vehicles are not investments in most cases, and I usually try to either pay cash for them or have a payment no longer than 24 months.

    That being said, I wouldn't sell your truck either. Unless you put at least 20% down, the losses might not be worth it, or a possibility if the vehicle is upside down in value.

    It is an insane market. The day the house hits the market there is at least 20 offers and unless you have cash there isn't much to offer over asking price. Even to build we had to wait for an available lot.

    I think I will be keeping the truck due to it being so early. I am very happy with the truck and I'm sure it will be useful with a new house

    I think much depends on how much equity you have and what your payoff is. Did you put 10 or 20k down or finance the entire truck? Or do you hold the title? What's your debt to income ratio? I am not asking for numbers as that is your totally your business. But if you have equity you may still be able to sell and mayyyyybe break even.

    I would only list it as a private seller on truck trader or even possibly Craigslist. There is a buyer, you just have to find that person. Caution flag on saying why you are selling as this will help a potential buyer in his offer - more often than not low ball offer.
    Lastly, if it were me I would keep it and just see how things work out.

    The pics look good, but this house needs 75-85k in repairs on top of the 350000.00 they want. Now the 75-85k is if we did the work ourselves. I'm not going to do that shit, so it would be more like 125000.00 in repairs. We are boys and all, and if he called me about needing to move a body, only question I would ask is if we need a shovel.

    We built our house two years ago. I had a GMC Sierra that wasn't a cheap truck. Figured I'd downsize and get into something more payment friendly.

    I hated that damn car after two months. I'd rather pay $500 a month on something I love than $300 on something I absolutely hate.

    Take my word for it. DONT DO IT.


    Only thing that was good about it was that it resulted in me buying my Tundra

    My take is don't buy anything you can't really afford and in addition you should have a big pile of cash in your safe as well as savings account.
    Basically ,living beyond your means costs a lot and living stressed about making the next payment can't be fun. I guess just do what you will be comfortable with.

    I say keep the truck and don't buy a house, we are in a huge housing bubble, larger than the last, prices are so inflated!! At least where I'm at and i kniw all the key areas in the counrty are as well. I've been in realestate for 17 years , no I'm not a realtor either. JUST MY .02.
