Looking for brighter better headlights?

I’ve done a lot of research and recommend getting projector headlights.

HOWEVER
I have found LEDS that work beautifully in the stock reflector housing. Installed them today’s and never have been happier.
Make sure to adjust your beams!

These photos represent standard LED’s most people buy off of the internet and the ones I put in my truck. I did not do research and did not realize the mistake I made. I was blinding everyone and quite honestly not getting a good lighting experience. As you can see there is extreme glare and really poor beam placement.

This photo show the new LED’s. As you can see the cutoff is amazing and the brightness is the same as the standard ones. (I know I need to adjust my headlights but I’ve been working a lot and it’s been raining)

I can go into a very detailed explanation of how it works but I’ve been very busy and this picture sums it up very well.


I know there my be some of you who still think this is not the way to go. However take it from me. I got random LEDs that fit my truck based on lumens market to me. I was blinding others and got flashed multiple times a night. I lit up freeway bridge signs and illuminated the inside of people cabs like they installed a floodlight for fun. Ever since I installed these new headlights not only have I had no one flash me but I haven’t blinded anyone and actually get use of the brightness the LED’s offer with a great cutoff. I’m not an asshole anymore!

Yes, I still need to adjust them and get either restore my housing or get new ones.

Reinstalled my katanas today with new resistors that they supplied because my fog lights did not work properly. Got them mounted up and all functioning properly. My cutoff is pretty good. I have some scatter but that is from my Chinese aftermarket housings. I had same scatter with original halogen bulbs. Not sure how much adjustment will be needed. I'll adjust if people flash I guess. Thanks for all help fellas.

I don't mean to seem negative but I'm skeptical of headlights against a flat surface test. Until you drive on a country road you really don't have a good grasp of how well the lights work.

I watched both videos.

I believe the HR video said the 2 Stroke 3.0 was not DOT approved for street use.

Yes, but retrofits aren't technically legal and also brighter halogen bulbs aren't legal, and any led bulb isn't legal, but we all do it

 

Are the $175 2Strokes really THAT much better than the $40 Auxbeams?

 

Has anyone heard of alien leds?? If so any feed back on them. I was thinking of buy a pair for my 2006 dc tundra,btw they are bright white xenon 6000k.thank you for everyones time.

I watched the videos too, the cut offs get soft and not as defined on some reflectors compared to halogen bulbs. The dude keeps saying "perfect cutoff" but he is a trying to make a sale. LOL. Far as I'm concerned only projectors with cutoff shields, whether fixed low beam, or bi-xenon or bi-led, are the only ones that provide perfect cutoffs. Some halogen setups also have very nice cutoff but once you throw LEDs in there, the cutoff gets soft and not as defined. Meh.

 

Good info . . . what would you recommend for a simple plug & play upgrade? (and ideally keeping the dust shields on the back of the housings intact)?

Check my build page for details. I’m on my second set of Katana LEDs in the Headlights. Still on the first pair of LED Fogs from HR (sweet PerfectFits).

My next set of LEDs Head Lights will be a Projector Style Plug and Play all one unit. I’m waiting for LED Projectors (all one piece) to become more prevalent as had happened to the LED Bulbs. The quality rose with the price coming down.

That cup on the LED bulb over the front diode was the game changer for them as it mimicked the incandescent bulb. Make sure whatever bulb you get has that shield/cup. Longevity was an issue on the first set of Katanas (14 months using Day Run Lights).

Pic is from 25 feet away with Low Beam with Fogs (First Gen Katanas with PerfectFit Fogs). Housings are Akkon Aftermarket. I’d say its a good cut off. I’ll also say that the Fogs make driving so much better at night. Without them, the Head Lights (Incandescent or LED) are a wash. I’ve done plenty of experimenting so come at me strongly if you want.

 

I doubt it, but I do like the fact that they "might" melt snow off the headlight. That's been my big concern with going LED.

I just read some stuff a few days ago that HID might also not melt snow off and it's not the heat of the bulb that melts the snow, but the light wavelength frequency so now I'm extra confused.

 

I can assure everyone right now that the new 2Stroke 3.0 LED bulbs are mountains better than the standard Amazon/eBay bulbs that you'll find so many using on the roads today, there's a great reason why there's such a stigma with glaring LEDs on the roads and you can thank those cheap, unaimed bulbs for it! The 2Stroke is packed with more features than meets the eye, I wouldn't speak before seeing test results! (Lots to come on our YouTube channel shortly!) From a few we've seen so far, they've outperformed the well-known GTR Lighting Ultra 2 LED bulbs!

The 2Stroke 3.0 will definitely melt snow/ice build-up on the front of your housings just as HIDs will due to the heat that is inside that housing, nothing to do with wavelengths! HIDs run much much hotter than standard Halogens or LEDs will, you can NOT touch an HID bulb after it's powered off for some time, I've lost some fingerprints to HIDs in the past... LOL.

With the way the 2Stroke 3.0 takes cool air on one side and expels the hot air out the other, this is directly heating the housing that the LED is installed into, which will in return heat the lens of your housing and will keep those lenses free! Of course, if it's dumping snow outside it might not be able to keep up with heavy snowfall, but I can assure you they'll have no issues keeping up with your day-to-day snowfall.

This is true. Projectors will always have a cleaner cutoff because it is a physical barrier. I have seen some very good cutoffs with some reflectors but they can't match the cutoff of a projector by design.

That said, I wish LED was where it is today several years ago when I converted my lights to HID. I would have loved to experiment with some of these products. The prices and ease of install are very attractive.

 

All those artifacts above the cutoff line are what blind other drivers. Using a flat wall is where this problem shows itself. Leds have a much larger hot spot than the bulbs that came in these trucks. The Hotspot in a normal bulb is about the size of your dogs whisker. Anything outside of that size shows up as atifacts and blinds people.

Any one want ro talk about cri? Colors get washed out and everything looks pastel. Some leds do ok but most are pretty awful.
