Going on one month with my new 2012 5.7 Crewmax and and having another minor issue. Occasionally when I go to start the truck, I turn the key but it doesn't crank. The dash lights up as if it will start but nothing happens. I discovered that taking it out of park and then putting it in park again allows it to start fine. It has happened 4 times in the past month. Anyone have this issue or heard about it? Wondering if it is possibly a parking sensor. Truck is still under warranty.

If it's warrantied- take it to Toyota in hopes of them duplicating the issue.

You can also check the voltage on your battery and alternator...that's my guess to what the issue is.

yep bank account is running low from it..
The switch on your transmission is bad for starting... if it starts in neutral then you have a bad switch...

Now that I re-read this- that sounds right.

If OP has to play around with the linkage as it will only start in park (as should be by default) that makes sense.

Easy fix for the op... only other thing is the linkage is out of adjustment but not likely...

    Faulty neutral safety switch perhaps!

Another option to check would be the connections to the starter. If any of them have corrosion on them it may cause this. What I didn't read was if when you turned the key as if you were going to start it, what did the truck do? This would help in diagnosis.

Took it to the dealer and they didn't find anything wrong of course. Been a week without it happening, hoping it continues.

I hate when they can't replicate the issue.
