May be a stupid question, I have Stagg Jr and absolutely love it, what is the difference between the two and what should I expect if I am able to find a bottle GTS?

Nice find!! I live 45 minutes from the distillery and can't find any of the BTAC collection.

Big difference is the age. Stagg Jr is a good one too! Just not aged quite as long.

I seriously thought the guy was joking with me. We randomly stopped it cause my BIL wanted to grab some kraken and I was just walking around the store. They dont have the best selection on the shelves, so i rarely stop in and buy anything. But he came out of thr back with it and I couldn't throw my CC at him fast enough.

Ive came across the Stagg JR a couple of times, but always pass cause of hot it is. The extra age supposedly mellows it out.

Just read this. I had to read it again as this is such an unusual opinion. Garrison Brothers is often one of the most highly rated Texas whiskeys out there. Personally, I love it with just a drop of water. It's my go-to at my barber shop.

Everyone has their preferences for sure, but my opinion is far from unusual in the 4,000 member bourbon group I’m in. They come in nice looking glassware though. For Texas stuff I far prefer Balcones and Whitmeyer’s.

Balcones is my favorite. Also love Garrison Bros. Have you tried Milam and Greene? Excellent!

I haven't tried Milam and Greene yet but their distillery looks like it would be a nice visit someday... definitely sounds promising

We did a virtual tasting with them through a club I'm part of. It was pretty cool. Their distillery is a short drive from our home. I'll have to check it out in person soon.

I thought it was a bit "thin" compared to prior years. 2017 still my favorite. The nose on the OFBB is by far the best though. Regardless of year I love the way that stuff smells.

I mostly agree with this. Their "lower tier" offerings are very expensive and not proportional to the experience. I mostly get sweet popcorn on nose/palate/finish . I haven't tried cowboy or balmorrhea, but i am not sure if I would given they're even more expensive

It is the smoothest, easy, drinking whiskey you will find. It has a light cherry nose and palate that does not taste artificial.

I found the distillery a couple years ago when I had some time to kill before a flight out of Traverse City. I was looking for a brewery and drove past the distillery on my way. When I got to the brewery parking lot it looked a whole lot less interesting than the distillery so I turned around. Boy am I happy I did.
They had a featured cocktail with cherry whiskey, simple syrup, mashed cherries and orange that drank like kool aid. I was sold at that point and bought a bottle to take home along with their Northern Michigan cherries. Needless to say the bottle didn't last long and I was calling to see how I could get it in MN. Total Wine carries it in Minneapolis so every trip there I pick up a bottle. Not sure it is distributed much beyond the Midwest but you could call them and check. If you can't find it I would be willing to ship one off.

Our son was stationed in Traverse City in a USCG SAR helo crew. He brought me back a few bottle's of bourbon from there, but that one must be pretty good, because he never brought me that one or even mentioned it...lol The bourbon he brought me from that distillary was pretty damned good!

This thread has been amazing! So interesting to see such a wide variety and brands of whiskey. There's a restaurant called "Top of the Rock" a few miles from the Arkansas Missouri line that features a wonderful "Whiskey Room." You can enjoy so many of the finest whisky's and whiskey's on the market served by a bartender that has an incredible knowledge of his trade.
