I appreciate it. I just don't have a huge desire to engage with people on more than topical and superficial levels 99% of the time. I know it's terrible and makes me sound shallow and selfish, but at least I'm honest. I understand that I have more baggage than LAX, but I also try to not let it burden other people.

I do appreciate the input and your suggestions on improving the situation though. Thank you.

I think many of us are the same on certain levels. I can talk to strangers all night long if they're genuinely good people (yes, that's subjective). But the topics have to be interesting and conversation two-ways. But put me in a room full of egos or people that don't know how to talk about anything but sports or themselves, and I'm done. I either redline and leave immediately or drink too much to stop the redline. Then I redline on the ride home for having to pay for a cab because someone doesn't know when to STFU. We actually have a handful of neighbors that I haven't seen in years b/c they're annoying AF. My wife goes and visits them and I stay home. Life is too short to hang out with azzholz.

Yeah, if that's your thing then cool, it's more about a conversation. I follow a few teams, but don't get passionate about it. But no joke, I can say "yeah, I don't follow the NBA" and the person I'm talking to will hear "You know what, please ramble for 10 minutes about chit you heard on the radio this morning". That's not a conversation...that's an ego stroking itself.

And I, unfortunately talk too much and have a broken volume dial. The anxiety makes me a motor mouth, especially if it's a topic I'm interested in. I am working on trying to listen better and be quiet, but it's a slow process. Old habits die hard.

 

Yeah, fair enough. If someone tells me they're not into something, I won't talk about it. But if someone doesn't like sports or trucks and we don't share similar tastes in music, movies, books, etc., I don't know what to talk about.

 

You two should go on a date, during which you don't talk to each other. You'll be best friends and never have to say a word.

Texas is one of the few other states I would consider living in. It's just such a jolt to fly out in the snow one day, and get mosquitos the next.

Besides, my sister would feel neglected if I left to go meet people vs staying to visit.
