Hey guys, i'm looking at buying a tundra in the next week or so. I am torn between a 2017 TRD OR 4x4 with the SR5 upgrade and premium audio, and a 2014 limited with the leather. The 2014 has 28k miles, and is approximately $2k less.

My issue is - is it worth buying slightly older / used for leather, or I am better off getting full warranty etc buying new? What changes happened between 2014 & 2017?

38 gallon fuel tank is major. If the 17 has it, I'd definitely get the 17

The 17 definitely has the larger tank.

But leather is also a major factor - i sweat, hunt, fish, boat, etc, and am worried about the cloth seats.

You can add aftermarket Katzkins for about $1500

I love my 17 over my 15. I towna boat often so the larger tank and trailer break control was a big factor for me.

This is much cheaper than a transferflow swap. If you are hunting and fishing you may really appreciate the 38 gallon tank.

For only $2K more you get a 2017. Go with 2017 and put on aftermarket seat covers like Katzkins or Wet Okoles that are water proof.

yeah, for $2k, go new. Dealerships overprice used cars to motivate you into buying new, then, when they can't sell them at their asking price, they just punt them off to auction. If they are your only options, to me it's a no brainer. Is the '14 limited fairly priced against market though?

They're both crewmax trd 4x4s, the 17 is white and the 14 is silver (i love silver)

I think the '14 is priced slightly high and should sell more towards $37k otd.

I just have a hard time thinking that 12 gallons of gas is worth more than sun roof, seat heaters, and leather.

A little of this and a little of that.
From my perspective and from what you have written get the '17. It sounds to me it'll fit your needs better. The 38 gal gas tank alone it worth it. I've got the 38 gal tank and am so glad I have it. Get the 2017.

The 26 gallon really isn't 26 gallons. When you're on Empty there's about 4 gallons in the tank to keep the fuel pump cool. So that leaves you with only 22 useable gallons. I get about 13mpg which only leaves a range of about 290 miles. Even worse if you tow. With the 38 gallon, you have 34 useable gallons which will give you about 440 miles. Huge difference, especially if you go off the beaten path.

Sweat, Hunt, fish, boat, I definitely wouldn't go the leather route. Go cloth and upgrade with some Wet Okole or Coverkings. Just my.02. Good look with your search.

As much as I love my seat heaters/ball coolers, sun roof, and leather in my Platinum (as well as other crap like the power folding mirrors) how can you NOT buy brand new when it's only a $2k difference?

I was/am in the same situation. I planned to buy a used 2015 or 16 but the cost difference between used and new was only a few thousand so I decided to spend a little extra and get new. Used Tundras in good shape with low miles were hard to find for less than $37K in my neck of the woods. Still waiting for mine. Dealer says it will be shipped from the factory this week

My 2014 was $30.5k. 40k mi and certified pre-owned. 12 month unlimited warranty and up to 100k power-train. It's a double cab though.

I'd talk down the 14 and upgrade to the transfer flow and get after market leather seats heated and cooled. (I'm in that process)

I had the same choice, I went with the limited, easy choice with all three goodies it comes with too. Mine was a CPO, bumper to bumper warrantee to 100k miles. I never looked back.
