Just started about a week ago. When using the key fob or the driver's door unlock switch, the passenger door doesn't unlock. Anyone else have this happen, know if there is a recall, or how to fix? Only way it works is if I reach across from driver's seat and manually unlock. Searched the forums and haven't found anything. A little too early for these types of issues. Especially considering it's garage kept and driven like a grandpa, never been off-road.

    Thanks in advance!

Sounds like a motor or switch issue. 4-5 years isn't unheard of for this type of issue. Will it unlock if you use the passenger switch, or is it only if you manually flip the lock? If the passenger side switch works, then your motor is fine, but if even it fails, then I'd be taking a hard look at the motor in the passenger door. Heck, it might just be a loose connection.

My daughters 4Runner has the same issue. Went out last week. Pretty sure it’s the actuator. Going to order one and replace it for her.

Yes, actuator instead of motor. It's early and my brain couldn't come up with the right word!

:thumbsup:Yeah I pulled her door panel to make sure the cables were still connected. So I’m pretty sure that’s the issue.

So, of course I just tried it and it works fine now. However, I have noticed that it seems to not work when it has been outside for a while now that's it's cold in the evenings. So is the consensus that the actuator is starting to go bad? I've replaced those in some of my older vehicles, but try not to pull apart too much on my Tundra. Pretty simple fix (easy to get to?) for semi-mechanically inclined people?

The actuator motor doesn't spin a whole lot, so the commutator gets caked up with brush material, there are 3 options here

    1. Replace entire actuator, this is the most expensive option, but saves the most time

    2. Replace actuator motor, costs about 5 bucks on Amazon, your can buy a few more for future use when other actuators fail. Pretty easy to replace the motor.

    3. Remove old actuator motor and disassemble it to clean off caked up brush material, if you work on things fairly often you'll probably have whatever you need to clean it (electrical cleaner, wipe it off with a rag and small brush, etc) this option is free and takes about 15 min longer than option 2 because of motor disassembly.

Does it work from the passenger door switch?

If it does it's not the actuator. Most of the time it's the driver's side door switch. People tend to leave their window down and water gets into the switch and causes problems.
