Does Anyone Else NOT Hate Chrome?

I like the "standard"quantity of chrome that my 1794 has original from factory. Quite the contrary, I don't like the black, in black, in black.. so to infinitum and beyond. Seems so boring and quite frankly a little bit sad and childish. But as the saying goes, in a matter of tastes... everybody has an opinion. Usually in all my vehicles I prefer to keep almost "un-molested" and factory standard, with almost no "mods" or any huge customization. Maybe some subtle small things here and there that can be easily removable to get back to original specs. I know that it will hold the value of the vehicle better if I decide to trade in or sell.

 

I'm okay with my childish black truck, I can't stand fake plastic chrome.

 

Not a "real" chrome hater here at all. I have a black Tundra. I like my real chrome bumpers but dislike fake plastic chrome. That doesn't make me sad or childish. I'm glad you finally defined what THE standard quantity of "chrome" is.....lol

Chrome on Silver Tundra with black accents here - I don't think there's a cleaner look and my heart rate still happily goes up when I'm walking across the parking lot to my truck. I agree with others on the Pep Boys vomit comment... to me, chrome mirror caps and pillars would be a no-no. I also think the blackout thing is a flash in the pan, but still respect that look.

 

I forgot about the "chrome" pillars....oh my....

I actually like the SR5 look of dark grill with chrome surround better than the bright grill of the Limited and 1794 because I think the dark grill sets off the chrome better. That said, I have no plans to change the grill on my Limited.

 

Not too old here, in my 30s. Initially didn't want chrome when Tundra shopping, but after getting mine, I really like how it looks on mine.

I like the painted match bumpers, but because it is plastic, I think it is kind of flimsy. If a shopping cart hit, it would've been over. Sort of the feeling like if it was a nice sports car or luxury car.

 

I don't necessarily like the chrome but I'm not going to spend all that money to get rid of it because I have better, more useful things to spend that money on. Plus it looks pretty good with the MGM color.

 

Plasti Dip is cheap........I bought my Attitude Black surround for $40 off Craigslist. No need to spend much $ for the look you want. I Plasti Dipped my H bulge. Still need to hit up @Roman for that but my priorities have changed again it seems......I actually don't mind the plastic chrome "accents" in my tunnies interior. I'm not that OCD.

 

I like my Silver Sky with the chrome accents.

 

I conducted a poll of all Tundra owners within a 25 ft radius and 100% of them agreed that this was the correct amount of chrome on a second gen. But third gens ?... don't like the chrome.

 

Props to your scientific method and empirical data. I shall inquire with our resident expert on such factual matters. @hagrid do you approve of these hard facts?

 

I'm sure he'll tell us if the data are ROCK SOLID.

 

I see many comments on the disslike of "cheap plastic chrome" look. Seems no one takes issue with cheap plastidiped/spray painted plastic? A good true factory paint matched set does look great on these trucks though. I'll give yeah that..I don't like a ton of chrome either to be fair.

I covered my chrome bumpers with black plasti dip (rear) and black Bumpershellz (front) and am beginning to not like it. Thinking about getting the paintable bumpershellz and going color matched.

 

I specifically bought an SR5 so I could get chrome bumpers and the chrome around the front grille. Liked the classic look and feel like chrome is more durable for what I put my truck through.

Had the dealer swap black running boards for chrome, but ultimately went back to black.

On the interior, I bought the AJT shifter ring and cup holder to remove the chrome there, but don’t mind the rest of it.

I do like the blacked out look, but not for my truck.

 

When do the third gens hit the street?

Yes, pre-14 second gens got the chrome balance right... updated 2014 and newer second gens chrome is cartoonish at best.

 

I spent more of my time cleaning then shining the chrome on my Harley for many many many years and I am D O N E with chrome. I took all my chrome of my Gen 3 within days of buying it
