Front shocks leaking at 20K miles !?

I was just wondering if this is normal. I went in for an oil change and they showed me these pics:



I’m out of warranty so what is the best front set for my truck?

There is a plethora options for shocks. If you’re set on Bilstein a lot of folks on here have the 6112/5160 set-up and seem very happy with it. You could also consider King, Fox, ADS and many others. Members who know a lot more about this will chime in shortly I’m sure.

 

Thanks, I’m primarily looking for ride comfort. Hope someone would recommend the best shocks for that.

 

Icon anything will change you for the better...less than Kings/Fox...or consider the Falcons...look up Falcons if you ever tow too...great option without breaking the bank

Well, the standard toyota black shocks do not perform great or seem to last too long.

There are lots of good options however. Are you wanting a stock replacement or do you want to lift it at all?

Just looking for a soft highway ride, no off-roading. Something that would work with the leveling kit or possibly adjustable to replace it with a 2” lift.

 

Ride comfort is directly related to the tires, and the smoothest shocks I have used are Bilstein 4600 series shocks (same as the TRD Off Road shocks).

 

6112s would be a decent choice. Set at 1.9 they will level the truck, ride better than 5100s and will not need UCAs. Then you could use 5160s in the rear. It would be a nice upgrade from the stock black shocks.

 

If you're going wait for that bilstein, I'd just buy a part out as a temporary solution. Somehing like this

@DallasTundra I have the Eibach leveling kit (has stock height option) and very happy with it. Very smooth on and off road.

 

Same. I’ve been very happy with it.

 

I’m thinking about this one with the upcoming BlackFriday discount. It incorporates Eibach components. Do you guys have a link to Eibach leveling kit?

If you want a smooth ride avoid the 6112s.
Mine are stiff as f**k.

 

Bilstein 4600 series shocks and high quality tires are what I recommend.

 

I had 125,xxx miles on my truck with the original shocks. I replaced with 6112/5160 set at 1.9 and stock in the rear. They made Huge difference in ride quality. The Bilstines paired with a TRD rear sway bar make the truck feel like it's planted to the ground.
For me it was a toss up between the Bilstiens or Eibach, the bilstiens won because of the more adjustments on the 6112 to get the ride height I was looking for.

 

My 2021 has 4k miles already lol, its maybe a month old.

I'd say 20,000 is way too early for a blow out. I have fox 2.5 on mine and its comfier than stock.

Wife has 6112 on the tahoe and they ride great too, just don't handle bumps as well at speed.

 

30k on my 2015....can’t tell u want to get really only shocks I’ve had other than the 4600s are fox 2.5s and I’m never turning back. Fox 2.0 might be a good choice tho.
