It seems the "routes" I created in Google Earth and imported to Gaia do not show up on the CarPlay screen so they got me to pay for a membership to recreate the routes in the Gaia app. All good now.

 

there is a coupon floating around on the forum for 5 years of Gaia for $120 I think

Too bad Apple Carplay doesn't work on the older Tundras. (i.e 2016 TRD.) I would love to have this functionality.

 

Ah hell... Now I have to buy a new headunit. It's worth buying a new head unit over dealing with the shaking from the stupid Ram ball.

 

I use this in my 2002 with aftermarket HU. There is some wonkiness when you are out of cell phone data range. In those areas, which is pretty much the only time I am using Gaia, I make sure to download the map region at home and then load that region into the main pap area before plugging in my phone. IIRC, the map will not load onto the carplay screen if you do not already have it running on your phone before connecting to the HU. This is for a wired connection btw. Love this to find carcamping and general route finding in the backcountry.

A map app. You can load national geographic maps, various topo maps, etc. I use it for hiking trails and also backcountry roads. It helps me to find car camping spots as well.
