Looking at buying some factory parts and holy crap! Seems that all of the different dealership parts shops are using the same online point-of-sale software, and they all have astronomical shipping prices. What gives?

A set of OEM rubber door sill protectors that is listed for $30-$35 (depending on the specific parts store) is quoting to ship between $12 and $15 for basic shipping. I put some G-Tek door sill protectors and SABM kit in my cart at the one place I found them and was looking at over $50 for shipping for $190 worth of parts that I know I could go down to FedEx and ship for under $15 without any corporate discounts.

Is there some secret discount code a guy needs to use? I see places like Cool Springs claiming to offer 20% shipping discount (except their store is not taking orders right now), but that still seems like highway robbery.

I guess this is more of a rant than anything, but seriously, is there somewhere that factory parts can be found for decent prices where they aren’t turning around and making up the difference of MSRP on the shipping quote?

Shipping is crazy right now. Weirdly enough I had put mirror covers and door handle covers in my cart earlier today. Just checked the shipping and it was about $18 from FL to PDX.

    that’s not bad.

Try buying gym equipment! Thank god I built mine before this nonsense(well most of it).

Bought a new grill from Rectec I few weeks ago. Looked like UPS drug it from Atlanta.

You should try living in Canada. I’m looking at a $200 shipping charge for a powerstop brake kit, just 4 rotors and pads. Still cheaper than I can buy locally in the end though.

here you go, use the following code to get free shipping.

    Code: FREESHIP

Must order thru Toyota Online sparks store, not their actual website, link below:

Oh and with this, you also get sparks low prices

Always check your local dealership parts website (if you have one). Have the part delivered directly to the dealership and pick it up. You won’t pay any shipping that way and the prices are virtually the same.

So far in the last 12 years, my experience has been that the dealers local to me all want to charge MSRP on any parts.

Freight and shipping companies are backlogged like crazy which is what seems to be driving prices up. There are huge backlogs in China delaying product flow globally. It's somewhat related to Covid. For example, passenger airlines supplement smaller shipments by using unused cargo space in the aircraft, and with flights down big since Covid, it's creating a bottleneck in the system and taxing a system that is already running near capacity.

Yeah, but I call BS on some of that. When a dealership 120 miles north of me has the same underlying website framework quoting me $45 shipping on $200 worth of parts, something isn’t right.

And this has been my experience since long before this spring... just happens that I’m suddenly looking at lots of new parts because I’ve got a new truck. :(

I've found a few times that buying directed from my local dealers for OEM parts as been cheaper than ordering and having them shipped from somewhere else. A few weeks ago I needed new rotors for my wife's Acura and I found it less expensive locally plus they gave me a first responder's discount of 20%. No one could beat that.
I've shopped at Cool Springs but I've yet to buy anything. Just as the OP stated, their shipping is just too expensive even with the 20% off discount on shipping.

Some dealerships use a 3rd party to manage their online retail sales and it’s cheaper that way because that 3rd party buys in bulk.

For example, I was purchasing an in-stock item from the parts dept, but the price was significantly more than if I were to order it online and wait for it to be delivered to the dealer for me to pick up.

What I’ve found, and I don’t know if this is 100% accurate, the Toyota parts websites that have the discounts have websites with similar web-address of “https://parts.XXXXXX.com”

Same thing here. I use the local dealership. I was chatting with the fellas down there and said the same thing. This is an avenue to increase profit. I am so glad you are questioning this. He says he ships stuff all day for 8 bucks. This is just another way to keep prices seemingly low and just bone you on the shipping. Pretty standard racket that they're all doing. This needs to be more known. We have a guy in our local FB group that we all use. Beats Romans prices (after shipping) all day.

I received mine last month, interesting to know that they are no longer available through the Sparks Parts website.

Some trucking companies are not shipping to certain areas right now. This can cause large price increases.

Looks like you're local - every time McCord's has quoted me parts it's been embarrassing. But I don't have LEO/MIL/First Responder status, so that doesn't help.

I searched Sparks a different way and they did show up for sale. Very odd their site sometimes.

Looks like several sites are suddenly offering free shipping right now. I have a particular fondness for the G-Tek door sill protectors (300k miles on my last truck and the only thing I had to do was hit the driver one with a little black paint when it finally started to wear through the powdercoat) and the only place I can find them is TRDShop.com. Just went there again today and they've got free shipping through 11/9. I picked up a SABM kit at the same time...not sure if I'll ever install it or not, but if I do it'll be easier than the one I home-made in my '08.

I experienced this too. I called my local dealer for some brake parts. Prices were ridicuously high. I went to the dealer's website and the prices were 40% cheaper. I called the parts dept and explained that and asked him if I could order over the phone wirh him and get the same price. He said no so I ordered online and picked up the parts at the dealer. No shipping charges. Go figure.

I only shop McCord's with coupons or if I need something ASAP. They don't offer any first responder discounts AFAIK.
