On my 2012 Tundra, when I set (or unset) the alarm the horn sounds, in addition to the much quieter (and less annoying) beep. I spend a lot of time in campgrounds, and I like to get up and going early, and I am always "that guy." Opening the truck pre-dawn wakes the dead, as well as fellow campers. I see no need to have the horn sound - it beeps, the lights flash - how unaware does Toyota think I am? The only solution so far is (a) don't lock the truck or (b) pull the fuse for the horn and remember to put it back before I drive off (which, pre-dawn and before coffee is challenging). I am guessing Techstream would be the way to do it, but I have had more problems installing it than I can count - I can never get it to where I can select the Xhorse VIM, for example. (This with Windows 10, the latest Techstream, following instructions from the OBDII blog and other sites that give workarounds.) I'm concerned that hooking up the MVCI cable with an imperfect Techstream install could do all kinds of damage to the truck's settings. And I don't even know if I would be able to turn off the horn sounding anyway. I had read that the warning for the alarm was given off by a little thingy under the driver's side headlight. I checked, and there is something there, but it's definitely the horns that sound. If anyone can help, I, and generations of fellow campers who like to sleep, would be most grateful.

You can just use the legacy method of inserting the key in the lock to unlock it and it wont beep... you can turn off the alarm by turning the key over 3 times and the red light on the left hand side of the dash will flash quickly... it will still beep, but if you use the door lock before you close the door it wont beep...

Thanks - using the key to lock/unlock does indeed turn off the beep, but unfortunately it doesn't turn off the horn.

I didn't really want to disable the alarm if there's a way simply to turn off the horn warning when I set/unset it, but if I turn the ignition from off to on three times (that's what you mean by turning the key over 3 times, right?), do I then do the same thing to re-enable it?

    Again, thanks.

Isn’t horn for the OEM Toyota alarm / lock / unlock the separate, smaller round one under the hood behind the airbox, as opposed to the dual horns behind the grille? Maybe unplug it and try?

I remember being able to disable the alarm beep with Techstream, not sure about the horn as I don’t think mine ever honked on lock / unlock.

The horn honking is from the dealer installed aftermarket junk alarm. Best way to have it adjusted is to go back to the dealer it was purchased from. Or just rip it out completely

My 07 has the horn alarm, and one time I opened my hood without thinking about the alarm being set, and it s so loud. My whole apt building was glaring at me through their windows.

You can always remove the horn fuse temporarily, but itll be a hassle... it's an easier solution in a way..

Maybe it isn't the factory alarm, but it is definitely the front dual horns that blare. I may run it by the dealer to reset with their Techstream, since I can't get mine to work.

Yeah, if I can't get the dealer to disable this "feature," that's probably what I'll end up doing.

Well, I tried, but no luck. Turning the key on and off 3 times, either quickly or slowly, did nothing. I tried 5 times with the same result. Perhaps I should have been sacrificing a chicken at the same time.

Lol, idk about all that... dealer service advisor taught me the feature.. key in the ignition and you turn it to on without turning over. Do that 3 times in 5 seconds and it will shut it off, same way to turn it back on... I usually do it to sneak shit into the house.. gotten proficient at it...

Man, that is a definite incentive. I'll ask at the dealer's how to do it on this model next time I'm over that way. I may be doing it too fast or too slow, like when I try to dance.

Yeah, I'm digging up an old thread. Maybe this info will help someone searching for the same thing later on.

If you have a dealer installed alarm with the blue LED mounted down near the hood release... there's a button behind that blue LED. First, turn ignition from OFF to ON, wait 5 seconds... then turn it back to ACC. Then, press that aforementioned button three times. You should hear a couple "confirmation" honks. Remove keys, exit the Tundra, and test!

On my 2018 the "honks" returned after the main battery died. Was driving me nuts. Now it's back to just the pleasant "microwave beeps"... ahhhh.

No idea if this works for other Gens, or what the equivalent is for push-button ignitions.

You could always interrupt the wiring to the horns with toggle switch mounted in the cab.
