I converted to Linux a few years ago, and it took some time for me to get used to it, but I can t imagine going back to Windows now. I ve tried several flavors of Linux, and have settled on POP OS for the time being. Im curious what everyone is using here. The last Windows os I used was Windows 7 pro. Once the support ended on it I forced myself to learn Linux. After a few years of using the terminal, and installing/running free software, I can t imagine it any other way.

I was very resistant to upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 10 but I finally did, primarily so I could play Deep Rock Galactic with my brothers.

iPadOS. I played with Ubuntu years ago. I installed winders 10 on virtual box on my MacBook Pro so I could DAP my truck. I can’t stand winders. My work laptop was recently updated to winders 10. It sucks. I have heard that Microsoft is working on a Chromium based Edge browser. So that’s promising. I can see a future where winders is Unix based.:bananadance:

Mint 20 but will probably go back to Mint 19.3. For whatever reason with the ubuntu 20.04 nvidia drivers, if you have cuda installed then it won't run steam without a crash (missing 32-bit something-or-other) and FAHControl won't work for another dependency that got nixed. Thankfully on that one an easy workaround is using my old config file and just running FAHClient --send-pause / --send-unpause / --send-finish in a second terminal to get it to start or stop.

Microsoft's business model is too shady for my tastes anymore. I do have Windows 3.1 in a dosbox VM if I need to fire up some of the software I used back in the day. Good thing I moved a bunch of them from floppies to CD before they degraded!

I'm using Mac 10.15.7 at home. I've always been a Mac user except at work. We had Win 7 up until last year and now we're using Win 10. It's absolutely horrible. I can deal Win 7, but WIN 10, NFW.

All you guys who hate Windows 10, other than the dumbed down task manager that doesn't allow you to do anything any more, what's actually wrong with it?

Because it's a Microsh!t product for one. They seem they can't leave well enough alone.

Since most mentions were about "upgrading" from Win7, I'm guessing they're on shit hardware that can't run all the fancy animations and extra UI still in a modern operating system... I've been a fan of the changes made to Windows 10, most specifically the Windows Subsystem for Linux. The start menu can go to hell, though.

Windows XP was good enough then they came up with Vista. Win 10 is the Vista of Win 7.

Win10 is actually a really good OS... when updates don't break it, which has been the case for the last 3-5 patches breaking and fixing each other.

Linux is fantastic but it's not all that great for gaming, too many caveats in that area. If you don't game on your PC, then Linux is the better choice.

Also a fan of win10 and how well it works with O365. You can do some pretty crazy workflows if you know which addins or tools to use

How is that any different than Toyota putting out a new car every year and changing stuff? They're a business and are in it to make money.

W10 user here. Never had any issues with Windows, even Vista worked fine

Change isn't always a good thing. You get used to something working well and when someone else thinks something is better for them it will be better for everyone. Not necessarily so.
I switched to Mac over 15 years ago after I got fed up of XP crashing over and over. Mac OS hasn't drastically change from one version to the next like Windows does.

I also hate change but I find it easier to find and do a lot of things in Windows 7/10 than in XP.

It was easier to find what I needed in Win 7. I don't remember much from XP except it was not too different from 7. The start menu is horrible on 10 as is finding anything. I relied heavily of "recent files" in 7 that I can't with the version of 10 I'm forced to use. Logging out is also a pain.

Right click on a program on the start menu (e.g. Word or Excel) to bring up a list of recent files.

Not in the configuration they have us using at work. I've complained about it to my IT guy numerous times and there was nothing he could fix.

Organizations neutering Windows is different than Microsoft jacking it up. By that logic, I could say MacOS is the worst thing in the world. Yet it’s awesome for home use.

I like facets of all of the major OSes out there. None of them have dealbreakers for me anymore.

I'm running Windows 10 Pro on a Macbook Air. I bought the Air to give Mac a try and see what the hype was about. I gave it an honest year of effort and I couldn't do anything but despise iOS. It's an unintutive piece of shit and made everything more difficult than it needed to be. I love the Macbook hardware though so I took my laptop to my friend who runs an IT company. He ripped iOS off and installed Windows 10 for me. Not through boot camp, literally stripped iOS right off. It's a great laptop now.
