My new to me 2016 Tundra came with the slide out tow mirrors they are power and heated. I don't need them and they make it more difficult to get into my garage. I don't care for the look either. My dad has a set of factory mirrors from his 2011 because he put tow mirrors on a few years ago. I'd like to swap my out. Will factory mirrors from a 2011 work on a 2016?

I read that the mirrors and wiring harnesses for 2007-2021 are all the same but it was from someone trying to sell his mirrors so take it with a grain of salt. I'm sure someone here will know if anything changed, say in 2014, for example.

I just looked. The part numbers are different based on autodim, heat, blind spot, etc. However, the housing and mounting itself may be the same. The housing itself on my 2020 looks the same as the one on my 2013. I have not pulled the door panel yet to look at the mount when I install my puddle lights.

I just installed Toyota tow mirrors on a buddy's 09 DC Tundra & on my 15 CM Tundra. Both trucks used the same P/N mirrors. The answer is yes they are directly interchangeable.

    This @70 FJ40

If the truck doesn't have memory, auto dim, blind spot then you will be fine with the swap.

I'm pretty sure neither has memory. That's the feature where the seat can be set to specific drivers. Right? Blind spot refers to the blind spot monitor, ya? Pretty sure neither truck has those. Not sure about auto dim though. They are both SR5 with the captains chairs and center shift.

You're good to go on the swap SR5 to SR5. They both have exactly the same mirrors and options.

So I swapped out my tow mirrors with my dad's stock mirrors. Went quickly. Mirrors were still in good condition and plugged right in. No problems. Until driving yesterday. I now have a wind whistle on the driver's side. Anytime I go over 25 MPH all the way up to 75 MPH anyway. Any thoughts on what I did wrong. Doesn't seem to me like a stock mirror should whistle.

Is it possible you didn’t get the cowling/trim where it attaches to the door fully sealed when you bolted them up? If the leading edge of that triangle “wing” had a gap somehow, I could see that causing the whistle. I know that in the past, people have done a mod to add some gasket sealant to that piece before installing it to keep water from getting behind it and later running down the door out the bottom.

On a side note - there’s a good chance you’ll be able to sell those OEM tow mirrors pretty easy. There’s a lot of people that want them, and Toyota wants a lot for them.

Definitely the foam trim that seals the outside triangle to the door. On my OE stock sport mirrors that were on the truck new were smashed completely flat when I took them off. I would try to purchase some of the same type foam and make a new one. That is the only place on our stock mirrors to cause whistling windnoise. Fairly easy fix though.

Thanks for the tips guys. The driver's side is the worst. That may just be because I can hear it better. I took it off and checked it out. Looked like the two parts of the mirror are not connected together as well as they should be. I glued them let it dry over night and it was much more solid between them. I put the mirror back on and it still whistles. So figured maybe they were just too old to work. I found some brand new mirrors taken off a '20 Tundra on craigslist. Bought those and put them on. They are in much better shape. However I still have a whistle. The triangle part of the mirror that is against the door is nice and tight. Also when I fold the mirror in the whistle goes away. Are they just a bad design? I don't know what to do if the whistle is being created by the design of the mirror sticking out. Not sure where to go from here except put the tow mirrors back on and live with all the drawbacks they create. It's better than listening to a whistle.
