Wow!! That's got Owen beat by a few weeks and a pound!
You're telling me man! It truly is a scary thing. I couldn't be down in Louisiana for them but couldn't get much sleep while all this was going on. Definitely a thing to go through. Can only imagine what my cousin was going through!

If it helps, my brother is now 17 years old - 6' 1" and 265 lbs haha. Completely normal or if anything, on the larger size. Im sure Owen will make a full recovery!

    Congratulations and stay strong Owen.

If he's on oxygen for a long time, make sure they wean him off and not an abrupt end of treatment. There's a risk for retinopathy of prematurity ROP than can cause blindness during the early years.

Hyperoxia increases vascular growth factors and can lead to neovascularization in the fundus. These young vessels are weak and can burst leading to retinopathy. I think Ray Charles was such a case..

I guess I'll be the forums eye ball guy.

Congrats. Best wishes. They will look back to this trying times and smile. My son stayed in NICU for a few weeks when he was born and now he is substantially taller than me at 14. My wife and I still talk about those scary times.

As the father of 27 week triplets who were all under 2 lbs, my thoughts go out to the family. These little ones are tougher than they look and with a little luck everything will work of just fine. My 3 are now 8 years old and essentially the tallest and arguably the smartest in their class. You go little guy!!!

Man, forgot about this thread due to a shitstorm that followed the announcement.

A short and quick update (very late): Owen ended up passing away three days after delivery due to a tear in the GI tract. Doc and I took the trip down to attend the funeral.
THAT was the hardest funeral I’ve ever been to. Can’t explain how heart wrenching it is to see a casket 1/10th the size of a full sized one, knowing a life was lost way before it started. Cuz and his wife took a long vacation after for grieving and healing.

One thing I have to give to them, they worked together to get over Owen’s death and continued to stay involved in charities focused on children with Down’s.

Come to find out, a year and a half later, they found out they were pregnant again!
I’m absolutely psyched to report they had another baby last week!
    A completely healthy baby boy.

I give you Briggs Alexander Olivier with his proud pops!
