Yep that's it. A good ole battery reset. You'll see it readjust back down as you drive more.

This. I disconnected my battery to install my wireless charger and it went from mid 400s to high 500s. Itll settle out.

Finally drove my truck until mile to empty fell below zero (I guess it did, it went from miles to empty 5, to low fuel)
guess it was trying to warn me "dude, you bout to run out"

Anyway - I filled up and got 30.595 gallons in it, then the pump shut off.

First tank on brand new tundra, drove it till the computer said 0 range left but the fuel warning light didn't even come on. Filled it up with 31 gallons. No worries on this end.

On my '11, I see it as having another 5-6 gallons or ~75mi of 'reserve' to use after the fuel light comes on and the range goes to 0 ... and I do that consistently without issue. I think the most I've ever filled up was around 24 gallons on the 26gal tank, and the fuel gauge was under the low mark for a while.

I ran too low once on the highway and the truck started cutting out ... immediately pulled over and dumped my 5gal can and luckily was inside of 20 miles to my next gas stop, anyway.

In most cases I'm good for about 300mi per tank, give or take. When towing, I plan for the worst and figure 200mi per tank and always pack a 5gal jug as contingency.

I drive between Summit County, CO and DFW frequently. Always around 80 mph. I get 14 near DFW (800 ft elevation) and 18 near Breckenridge CO (9500 ft elevation). Air resistance matters.

406 miles per tank here then about 7g reserve think I’m getting 12-14mpg I drive in tow/haul and have a bunch of weight. Notably I smack the gas tank on obstacles first. Need to upgrade the “scuff guard” on it ASAP.

I do the same thing. Had a ‘96 Tacoma that I drove for six years; logged all but maybe 10 tanks of fuel. Had an overall average of around 17.5.

My Tundra ain’t gonna get that :D

My Tundra was getting that... But that was doing most of my driving on the highway in the summer when we were doing lots of camping trips.

Hey guys, new member here. I'm in the market for Tundra and I've called two dealerships and they both confirmed the 38 gallon gas tank is a really a 32. I also test drove a 2020 on the lot and the fuel indicator showed 30 until empty and I noticed it stall a couple of time.

30 miles to empty means almost 8 to 9 gallons in the tank. Hard to believe on a test drive in a new Tundra that you were fuel starved with 9 gallons left. My truck has never done that.

Just curious, how many miles do you get on a tank when the light comes on?

I've pushed mine to over 700 miles on a full tank.

    This is crap.

For comparison, my Tacoma has a 21.1 gallon fuel tank and my low fuel light comes on around 17.5 to 18 gallons used. So that means I have a "reserve" of 3 gallons. That is an acceptable reserve. Only getting 28 gallons out of a 38 gallon tank is absurd to me.

It's not crap. The tank holds 38 gallons. There's no reason you can't drive the truck after the low fuel light comes on...

If you read through here everyone that has pushed the truck past E fills it up can get more gallons than "28". These trucks get 13mpgs so they are being conservative with the reserve.

Yes, but after the first page, it sounded like you could only expect a useable 28 gal., which would be total garbage.

Getting 35-37 on a 38 gal tank is more acceptable.

I didn't read all the pages, but that was my reaction after page 1.

I do see where others are getting better usability.

You can get 38 gallons out of this tank, it's just a question of what perceived damage is being done to the fuel pump by running it dry. Why did Toyota set the low gas warning to come on at around 8 gallons left instead of 3 - 5?

So the media wouldn't see a bunch of Tundras parked on the side of the road due to running out of fuel.
