Hello all, first I want to thank everybody in this forum for all of your posts. Recently, my wife wrecked my Tacoma. Thankfully, nobody was hurt, except my Taco. So, I began looking at getting a new truck, and after a lot of reading here and elsewhere, decided to change it up and bought a double cab 2017 SR5 TRD Off Road Tundra in Quicksand.

I have to say, though I loved my Tacoma, after driving off the lot with the Tundra a couple of weeks ago, I thanked my wife for wrecking my Taco. She laughed, of course.

This truck is just a joy to drive. Especially up here in Alaska on the icy roads. Just the difference in weight is a noticeable improvement in handling.

Before driving off the lot, I upgraded a number of parts that I'm waiting on the dealership to get in so I can take it back for install. Got the TRD Pro Bilstein Shocks, TRD Pro skid plate, the black tube steps, black fender flares, TRD Pro intakes, brakes, and exhaust, as well as the spray in bed liner. Still waiting on them to get back in touch with me for when I can take it in.

I also already ordered (though on backorder, according to an email I received from Roman) the TRD Pro grille and hood bulge in quicksand. Can't wait! Also ordered a Leer topper for it, should be in in about 4-6 weeks.

    Other plans include:

-Blacking out the lights and the badges on the sides.

-Front and rear bumpers. Front with a winch and stinger type bar. Actually was just reading about the Southern Style Offroad slimline front bumper, looks like it would look really good with Quicksand end caps. The back bumper I'm still researching. Looking for something that has a swinging tire and gas can mount. Haven't found much in that regards yet, though. Any suggestions?

-I'm also looking into having a rack installed over the double cab, but still researching that too.

    -Leveling kit. Still researching that.

Basically, my plan is to remove all the chrome from the truck, and make this a "black and tan" truck I can take almost anywhere. I'll follow up with picks here soon.

Anyway, again, thanks for all of the information throughout this site. It really helped me when I was researching how I wanted to replace my Tacoma.

Welcome from Colorado! Great start and sounds like plenty more money to spend LOL. Why does that name sound familiar? Conspiro-Agnew?

It's the same handle I use on a couple of gun and military forums, if you're on those areas of the net? Or, Spiro Agnew was Nixon's VP?

    ETA, and hello!

That's why name sounded familiar. Nah, no other forums. Just this one.

I think this is going to be the most expensive forum I've joined, as far as forums influencing your spending goes.
    Thanks, sir! *salutes*

Welcome from CO! Be wary of the TRDPro skid plate. Many complain of it "clunking" at times

I spend a LOT of time outdoors. Pretty much the only reason to live in Alaska is if you are into outdoor stuff. Fishing, camping, climbing, offroading, shooting, etc. This state has it all.

LOL! Sorry man. That said, you've got a lot at your fingertips too! Some of the most beautiful places I've visited in this country are in CA. Joshua Tree, Yosemite, Big Sur, wine country... never mind all the WARM coastline. ;)

Welcome from Oregon. This forum could definitely start to drain the wallet. That quicksand color is starting to grow on me. Sorry about your Tacoma but glad the wife is ok and congrats on the new truck.

Thanks for the head's up on the skid plate. I'll definitely keep my eye (or ear) on it. At least, if mine does that, and I hear the sound, I'll already have an idea where it's coming from. Lame though, you'd think they'd have that dialed in.

Thank you, sir. It really could not have worked out any better, considering the circumstances. She was super upset when she called me after the crash, and I kept reiterating that the only real important thing was that she was okay. The wreck wasn't her fault in the first place, but even if it was, material things can be replaced. :)

    Welcome from TN!

Nice truck! Been wanting to visit Alaska for a while now! Love the outdoors but the LA swamps and TN mountains get me wondering how much better it can get. I'm sure Alaska can fill those shoes!!

Welcome from the Front Range. Your trucks gonna look even nicer when it's black and tan.

Had to chuckle about some of the wife and $$$ comments. When I told my wife I joined a Tundra forum, she asked when I was buying one and if the mods list would be as extensive as my Vette. Fortunately they're not...these are solid units out of the box.

    Getting there...

So far, upgraded to the TRD Pro suspension, added the TRD dual exhaust, fender flares, brakes, skid plate, bed liner, and step bar.

The wheels should arrive tomorrow. Got a pair of all black 18x9 +18 wheels coming. Got a set of Nitto Exo Grapplers 285/70/18's ready to put on at the tire shop, who are also swapping out the TPMS sensors. That's Tuesday. Already took out the little front mud flap, waiting to see how this size fits before I chop anything.

@Roman has coming my way a color matched TRD pro grill and hood bulge, expecting that to get here Wednesday. Also ordered the TRD Pro black badges. Going to have to figure out what to do about the SR5 badge, though.

Also ordered the TRD Pro blackout headlights, expecting them to get here by the end of the week, if not Monday or so of the following week.

Ordered a Leer topper in Quicksand, they said about 4-6 weeks, and it's been about 3 so far, so soon on that one. Got this one with the cross bars. My REI dividend came in, and used that to pick up a Yakima basket/rack to throw up on top.

Yep, this site is awesome for ideas. Last bit of chrome are on the bumpers, but since I'm looking into getting a winch up front and a different bumper with swing arms, I figured ordering color matched end caps would be a waste of money.

Speaking of, anybody have any experience with this rear bumper:

    https://p-p-engineering.myshopify.com/collections/toyota/products/2nd-3rd-gen-tundra-rear-bumper

I searched far and wide for something like this for a 3rd Gen, and this seems to be exactly what I'm looking for. Also, any pro/con between steel or aluminum, since they give the option? I'm thinking weight vs. strength, but maybe you guys might have better insight into it?
