Took my 2019 Cav blue crew max in last month to have the paint looked at on the lower part of the doors, it was turning a tan color and very noticeable and there’s another thread on here with others stating the same.

I just wanted to advise that Toyota is covering mine under warranty and it’s at the paint shop now. My Service rep mentioned that a guy came in with a Silver Tundra and she noticed the same issues but she mentioned that she’s not allowed to point defects out unless the customer complains. He never noticed or brought it up so until he notices then it won’t be repaired.

also noticed the other day that my rear diff might be seeping around the case halves, so keep an eye out on yours.

Damn that sucks. Hopefully you’ll paint it black this time! You’ll pick up some HP and top end speed!

That sucks. But it also doesnt make sense that they can’t point that out on the other guys truck. The dealer will get reimbursed for the warranty work, so they will make some money from it. They have no issue telling you that you need a new cabin air filter if you go in for an oil change.

Seepage around the differential carrier joint, between studs, has been observed before. In most cases the leakage is inconsequential and Toyota will not address under warranty. Some cases have been bad enough to require resealing under warranty. Good luck with it.

Yeah there was a big thread about it but the OP was banned and the thread deleted. It sounded like some dealers would just retorque the bolts and say to keep an eye on it. The OP could try to do that at home too.

My 2020 Cement is discoloring some too. Looks brownish yellow. It is only on the lower part of the doors where it is painted thicker and has some texture, I assume to resist chipping from road debris.

Hadn’t given it much thought ‘til seeing this, but I will personally leave it since I assume a repaint will not be coated the same as factory at the bottom of the doors.

I ran my 5th Gen 4Runner across a massive boulder and took out a bunch of paint in the same area (prior to installing sliders). The body shop I took it to painted the lower doors with the rock guard like on the Tundra and Tacoma so it’s a common/available paint choice addition. If I recall they painted it more aggressively on the 4Runner but I could be wrong.

Truck picked up today from dealership after re-paint, so turn around was about 16 days.

My 2020 Super White has paint drip in the top of the bed on the apex of the bend from the side to the back. Part if me wants to whine like hell, but not sure if I care enough about it yet.

    GL with the repaint.

Well. I went though the invoice last night which they billed to Toyota, $6500 and they painted the entire truck according to the paperwork...

One thing in the invoice that caught my eye was remove and replace TRD 4x4 bedside decals, well one of mine had a scratch in it prior to paint so I went out to look and both sides are new decals. Prior to paint I had some guy detail my truck and it was full of swirl marks, not a single swirl or scratch on the entire truck. I had a small rock ding in the leading edge of the hood which is no longer there and the paint looks fresh.
So according to the invoice and what I can observe I’d say my truck has new paint.

I took pics of the lower rocker panels and no more tan paint. So far...A9D0EAE9-3B27-48EA-8386-FB1651B9C474.jpgF57F23A9-C3BE-4008-AB5A-182FD2AE38ED.jpg4C12F591-7C5F-4ED8-8B16-E505F2E774FB.jpg

Looks good. Does it still have the texture of the chip guard on the rocker panels?

Some body/paint shops in my area offer lifetime warranty on their paint jobs. Any chance you got that??. I am sure that a factory paint job will far outlast any after market job. Hope you have good luck with yours. Pics look great

    Congrats on the repaint.

I don't think many of us are going to have such luck when we ask for repaints because of the gravel guard fading.

For myself, I would prefer if they could somehow peel off the gravel guard repaint that section, with a hard line, and put a new gravel guard on, matching up with the paint line. Makes more sense?

I put a huge Boulder into the side of my 5th Gen 4Runner and when I was going to sell it I opted to have the damage repaired. I had a quality local shop repaint that area and they put a much more aggressive texture of rock guard than the OEM stuff. Looked pretty good, the 4Runner was magnetic grey so it was a bit harder to see but I like your idea and it would look solid. I think the cost to paint all four lower rocker panels on the 4Runner was about $650

same here :) I don’t understand why an auto body shop paint job might cause concern, the Super white paint on the Tacoma’s was peeling off or blistering and now the tan discoloration on Cav blue, silver and Cement but people get cars repaired and repainted everyday and those last without issue if done right so I’m not stressing it.

I'm with you on that point. Totally down on the aftermarket paint. Tons of good shops out there to do quality work. I was meaning that I hope the new chip guard doesn't have the same reaction down the road.

Washed the truck yesterday and noticed the same discoloration on my 2018 cement. Going to take it in to get it inspected to see what they will do. Its not too noticeable due to the cement color but wondering how much worse its going to get in a few years.

Just a word of advice, repainting a vehicle reduces it's value if you trade it in. Most private sale buyers wouldn't notice but any dealer will run a paint thickness checker on it. If it shows up thicker than normal they automatically assume it had damage and was repaired, even if there's nothing on the car fax report.

If Toyota is stripping to metal and re painting then no problem. Otherwise, and if it were me, I'd either live with it depending how bad it is or I'd have a third party create a diminished value report and make Toyota pay up. Keep all documentation!
