Haha true that! A year is excessive, but really yeah, a weekend to pull the bed and make cardboard templates. Then a few weekends to cut cut cut cut cut and then a weekend to burn them in :welder:

I skipped the cardboard and just traced the shapes onto the steel. Instead of making complicated scarf joints where the plates meet, I used an inverted tear drop to join the 2 plates. There are probably some good photos in @Vizsla's Blockhead build thread.

I can’t wait to be twins with you, Lil Bro! :fistbump:

I vote 16” on the wheels. Going to 17’s would be like doing LT on 2nd or 3rd gen Tundra and staying with 18’s. You’re gonna need that extra sidewall for the jumps!

And... although I want any reason for us to get together and stare at Hulk,
in the meantime, here’s pics of where my 33’s stuff:30066E62-BB69-460B-B5AB-95824CA10294.jpg 1DA14E8C-E727-4F99-BA2B-DFB3BAF44875.jpg

We have BORA spacers on. But didn’t want to go as wide as 2” — a lotta rotational stress if you drive it like you may wanna drive it. :D

There are very few wheels for our* trucks with the offset you’ll need for LT. I didn’t spend the fortune I did for the beauty, knowing I’d mar them up, which I have— but because I had to buy what works.

As I anticipated— having watched it over several trips after cutting out big portions of the original outside panels and driving it that way— wide bedsides for Hulk are mainly cosmetic... he’s trying to booty-up to look like the later gens :p ... the tires are stuffing inside the wheel wells. All that forethought to do the cantilever so as not to cut the bed was only somewhat successful.

I still like the extra room that not having a cage affords but, ideally, we’ll remove these original wheel wells and replace with slightly larger— and make them bases for the two spare tires :monocle: ...

    * our you know, those of us with LT 1st gens...!

Woohoooo! Wont be so "little" as it'll be a double cab - and currently looking at the BTF 4.5" over kit.

Wheel choice is something I'm confused on, little info specifically for 35" and 1st gens with LT. I won't have the frame rubbing issues most do, which is why they run spacers, so concerned with just how low my offset will need to be to clear the spindle and UCA with a ~12.5" wide tire as I don't want to run a spacer up front if I don't need to.
As for 16" or 17" - it's really going to be what I can get a deal on. Hell, might mean I'm on 33" and need to wait until those run out to get to 35" like I want. It's variable so I can make ends meet and still build up.

Haha yeah I was eyeing your cantilever system! But I'm not against running a small cage into the bed. I'll prob need to add some tabs and make some sort of a way to plate it in as it's likely I'll be camping in the bed and if I need to put the doggos back there, I don't want to risk them catching a paw in an open hole.

I did search and found people cutting out the stock wheel well and welding in a trailer fender and then making a side for it. Seems like a fairly simple option to create a bigger opening for the tires while still sealing off the bed.

I also have my fingers crossed I can squeeze one spare under the bed, and then toss a 2nd spare in the bed for the big trips.

So much to plan and do! But first step is I need to offload the taco.
First Tundra I was eyeing just sold, but just found another potential option up in the Bay Area. While that'll probably sell before I have cash in hand it's nice to see they're out there.

I’ll enjoy seeing what you do; it’ll be nice to have another 1st gen in the Fam to experiment with.

Yeah, that replacing wheel wells idea is pretty well lodged in my head as a long-term solution, so if you do it, I’ll get to see it first!

And, yeah, come look under Hulk to dash your hopes of carrying a 35” spare underneath.... :( If you can figure it out though, it’d be awesome!

Hey, Mike, the What Have You Done to your First Gen thread has good info that could save you a little time planning, even though most guys are closer to stock. For example, others and I got under our trucks at one point and measured all the clearance points in and around the under-bed spare storage area to work out how big a spare would fit....

I'll do some digging and read up on it, thanks! I could have sworn somewhere I read someone fit a 35" under there (but now that I'm looking for it, I can't find it  ).

No wind down here in Santee, only hot air. :anonymous:

I do think that colour looks good  everywhere except off-road. It completely disappears in dust, so unless you light up the truck like a 70’s semi-truck, it’s a collision waiting to happen. :deadhorse:

But it does look great, when it’s visible.

Whose is that one in the pic?

I spoke too soon. Starting about an hour ago, we’re having Major Gusts. Blowing trash bins over, pushing them down the street. Not a good time to add a spark.
