No. There is no transmission cooler thermostat to be pinned/unpinned on 2008. Thermostat started on 5.7L in MY2011.

I believe Tundras with the tow package have a trans thermostat/cooler from at least 2007-2016. I think they removed the cooler at some point.
Normal operation the trans thermostat is closed until about 225°. You can pin the trans thermostat open so the fluid flows through the trans cooler constantly. There are directions that show how to pin it open during a fluid change.

    That's wrong.

The trans thermostat is up on the passenger side next to the trans pan, it's a little plunger looking thing. Here's a picture from some for of it pinned open where it's depressed into that bolt head thing.

No additional fluid is needed. The entire system has fluid already. When the trans thermostat opens or is pinned it just allows the fluid to circulate the entire system to include the trans cooler.

Maybe I was looking for parts in the wrong place:

    https://parts.toyotaofcoolsprings.c...-4-7l-v8-gas/cooling-system--trans-oil-cooler

    https://parts.toyotaofcoolsprings.c...-5-7l-v8-gas/cooling-system--trans-oil-cooler

    https://parts.toyotaofcoolsprings.c...5-7l-v8-flex/cooling-system--trans-oil-cooler

Got a part number for that 2007-2010 thermostat?...Because it's not this one, note application table. I want to broaden my education: :D

That part number does indeed fit the 4.7L Tundra 2007-2009 which, I believe, has the A750 transmission? I stand corrected and educated. If @Rica25 has a 4.7L, then I agree, he does have a transmission thermostat. I still haven't seen a part number for the 2007-2010 5.7L.

OP, if your truck does have a transmission thermostat, it would normally be "de-pinned" or un-pinned. The thermostat operates normally if it is un-pinned. If you want to maximize ATF cooling all the time, you would push the plunger in, and lock the plunger in the depressed position by "pinning" or placing a "pin" through the hole as shown earlier.

    @JohnLakeman

I just looked up P/N 3297034030, superseded to 32970-34030 for my truck. Then when I google searched the superseded number with the hyphen, the description said for ‘11-20. And we well know that they disappeared from Tundras after ‘18. So yeah. Figure that one out, eh?

I have learned something here from the clarification. There are at least three different transmission thermostat part numbers for Tundras between 2007 and 2021, and possibly a fourth for 5.7L preceding 2011. Sometimes it's curious how Toyota does their part listings (See below).

Manufacturers change or supercede part numbers for a lot of reasons. Redesign to improve function, identical part by a cheaper supplier, etc. Your last post suggests the "fourth" part number is dead and no longer relevant. It makes you wonder why they don't revise the fitment chart to cover the earlier years. :notsure:

I also noticed that 32970-34030 was listed as fitting 5.7L through 2020. So, are they saying "This part didn't come on your Tundra, but it will fit, and we will sell it to you to bolt-on if you want."? I'm guessing if we pointed that out to the 2019-2021 "NO COOLER!!??" guys, that would get their pot boiling. :stirthepot:

Just curious as to why you are pinning the Transmission thermostat? Heavy loads? Hot weather where you live? I think most would want the puck to serve as a warmer in colder weather which helps the transmission get up to a good "warm" operating temperature till it opens for the cooler. BTW, I did see a diagram of the thermostats that show perforations which allows some tranny oil to always flow to the cooler. I will probably pin mine when hauling my boat next summer but for winter but have it unpinned for the cold WI winters. YMMV.

Drove to work today at 50 degrees and it took the transmission to get to the operating normal temp of midway or less on the gauge 20 minutes

That gauge isn’t the most accurate. It’s in the middle anywhere from around 150-240 if I remember right and it doesn’t move with fluctuations of trans temp. It’s just like having a light cause once it moves, you’re already getting hot.

I drive about 20 min to work and mines around 185 when I get there. When I pinned mine it was around 170.
